That’s not what I’d call “backing down” so much as “giving fans space to be creative and appreciate the material in their own way.”
Kind of an anti-Ellison.

Scootaloo’s aunts were a step in the right direction tbh, and I feel like had this series gone further (which I’m still holding out hope for that we get at least something to wrap this up) that they would’ve kept pulling on that string and made something of it - but I’ll take at least the hints that we had, not just from Sunset but from most of the EqG cast (Wiz Kid and Curly Winds for one, Rarity and Applejack for another) as a nice step forwards

except it means nothing.
this has no balls, no backbone, give some conviction to the lgbt rep or don’t.
actually say “know what? fuck you soccer moms, fuck you, this charart isn’t straight”.
sometimes this can go wrong though cough Lauren Zuke cough
Hadley clearly had this in mind for a while given the hints peppered throughout this franchise’s run, but knew she couldn’t fully implement it without some soccer mom getting mad because “MY KIDS CAN’T KNOW THE GAY EXISTS” even though that’s how sheltered children are born, but now that the show is over and production is over, she can finally put this shit out into the air just so people can know “hey this was a thing”
@Angrybrony
This. Its so easy to post this on some twitter account most of the viewers don’t follow to post some news they’ll never see on a work that’s already over. Its fan candy for people who constantly beg to ask staff who a bunch of characters on a kids tv program are bedding that allows them to go back and view every scene and retcon everything with this new paradigm. If it were true representation instead of placation, they’d make an ep about it or at least show it somewhere in an official work. A comic, even just being featured in the background of an ep is better than this.
