Hey, I just realized something.
Your argument as to why the change destiny spell should be allowed is the same reason you’re saying the Elements aren’t as powerful as they are: it’s what you believe.
@Mayojar77
The episode establishes that their cutie marks are part of what make them special, which include their function in the pony society and what they like to do. Swapping that made them unhappy that’s the point of the episode. Again, that only made the meaning of the cutie marks deeper and more personal.
@EvilTon
Ever heard of ‘Embellishment’?
And on top of that, it may have just been her discovering her talent at Gem-finding, which is what her talent actually is.
@The_Mungoman@Mayojar77
What, is this the “Pinkie lied about how she got her cutie mark” business? ‘Cause you might as well ignore that whole episode altogether if we’re gonna do that to everypony.
Rarity was good with sewing already, but she thought something was missing. She was lead to the dia by her horn (which, by the way , wasn’t well explained either - since when can horns sponaneously drag people for miles?), thus fulfilling her destiny, a destiny she chose and embraced out of her free will, instead of having it forced upon. If anything, MMC made the function of cutie marks much more meaningful.
@bboifatz
Actually, there aren’t any rules to spells and the EOH. They are vague and nearly unexplained. You’re just trying to enforce your own implied rules.
@Mayojar77
I told you already, I control my evil instead of letting it consume me and feel the need to wave my dick around plusitsapunonmynameithoughitwascleverbecauseiwas13andstilllearningenglish
@Mayojar77
And there’s the fact that Cutie Marks were never about destiny, but about talent. So frankly, the spell should not have been possible in the first place.
@Mayojar77
Not to mention that spells in MLP have never been depicted as magic words. Prior to MMC they have always been depicted more like ESP techniques, occurring through mental concentration. MMC broke every rule we knew about how spells, cutie marks, and the elements of harmony work. It’s because the episode was poorly written and the writers didn’t care wether or not it made sense.
@EvilTon
Actually, seeing as it’s a spell to change one’s destiny, maybe Celestia had a different thing in mind for Twilight should she complete the spell, but instead, she fucked up everything because she doesn’t read most of the spellbook, just the spell in it.
Seeing as Starswirl didn’t even have the Elements on hand, and thus couldn’t rig up a spell that links his spell with the Elements even if he could understand their abilities, then there’s no logical reason for the spell to be even one tenth as powerful as it was, since Canon had already stated that there’s no magic that can affect one’s cutie mark.
@Mayojar77
Exactly, now that Twilight was able to complete the spell and comprehend it, it makes sense that she would be promoted to a position of power (with the pretty wings as a bonus).
See how thing tie together if you go deep enough into them without being told?
@Mayojar77
“It’s all but outright said in canon.”
See? It wasn’t explained by the show, it’s just implied. Everybody can imply stuff that wasn’t explained. Filling the gaps is what makes fanon things fun. It’s always been like this, nothing’s changed.
@EvilTon
Starswirl was explicitly stated to not be able to complete the spell because he didn’t understand Friendship, I.E. the thing that the Elements run on. Therefore, seeing as he can’t get the things to work, it’s unreasonable to expect that he’d made the spell to be used with them. One cannot make a spell until they understand every aspect of the spell they’re trying to create.
@Mayojar77
We’ve been told what great sorcerer Starswirl is, so it would make some sense that he’d come up with a fix-everything-à-la-elements, that’d require both the rhyming and the deep comprehension of what those words mean. That’s why Twilight’s been made Princess.
@EvilTon
It’s all but outright said in canon. The Elements are powerful enough that even a god of chaos, one of the fundamental forces of nature, can be coerced into submission at the threat of them. And seeing as they ‘choose’ their bearers, they obviously are intelligent.
@EvilTon
What we’ve been trying to tell you is that the Elements being inconsistent is justifiable since they are quite possibly older than everything and more powerful than anything previously described, But the spell’s power is inexcusable since it was effectively just a few words on a piece of paper of questionable quality.
