There was some hints at Twilight’s “destiny” in the Crystal Empire episodes. After talking to a few folks, I think it would have been alright if they had a few episodes with some mention of this before the finale, and that the finale should have been two parts. If we had a better explanation and presentation of why this change was happening/necessary, I think more people would be happy. As it was, though, it felt rather forced.
 
I myself don’t mind Twilicorn, and I rather liked MMC, but the above reasons are also why it’s not my favorite finale.
 
(It’s sort of like how several episodes in Season 1 build up to the finale, and they all sort of build on each other. I was hoping for something like that.)

Most of the time the people who don’t like certain things are the most vocal about it and hammer on it for months to come. And the people who like certain things mostly say nothing at all and just sit and enjoy there things.

Everyone in the streams loved all the songs in the episode and there were shouts of best episode ever.
 
The hate over this episode confuses the hell out of me.

You don’t need to define everything that far in advance, does it really matter what it actually does?
 
It was never that important, it was just a plot device, the reason it doesn’t bother me is because this episode was not the singular event that made her a princess like other people act like it is.
 
Because Twilight totally had no character development before that episode, shes not the main character of the series or anything.

Many people still care, as you can see. In addition, MMC is the most recent episode and EqG isn’t out yet. If you’re so tired of people having a different opinion on Twilicorn, simply use the filter on “alicorn drama.” Come on, it’s not complicated.

I still don’t see how “wings” ruined the series, that’s like saying “green eyes” ruined Sonic… (Yes, I’ve seen Sonic fans say that.) Honestly, I don’t think Twilight looks that different now, and I’m curious what she can do now that she’s a princess. (It’s been confirmed she’s going to stay in Ponyville, and with her friends, so nothing’s really changing to much it sounds like.)

I think they leave some things vague for the same reasons Shigeru Miyamoto leaves the backstories for Super Mario, and such games vague. To leave some things up to the viewer’s imagination.

You people wouldn’t last one day in the Transformers fandom; we got used to things like this back in 1986.

So? They had no plans for who Sombra was or how Heart Warming’s reconciled with Mare In The Moon or what Cadance’s origin was either.
 
I think you still don’t get it how these people are writing the show. There are no huge overarching preplanned plotlines. They put in what seems a good plot device for one episode, leave enough things open and then pass it on to the next writer.

Yeah, I remember that too. Even though I didn’t know Twilicorn was coming, my gut told me something bad was going to happen a few months later, and yet I ignored it. I should have trusted my gut.
 
DESTUNEEEE is basically the opaque glue they used to slap the entire S3 finale together.

There goes my last bit of hope for any explanation about WHAT THE FRICK was going on in that clusterfuck of an episode.
 
My expectations for S4 are below the sea-level right now and digging their way towards Satan’s wine cellar.

I admit though, I was hoping they’d have more build-up, and character-development for Twilight’s ascension though.  
I kinda predicted Twilight might become a princess/alicorn from the foreshadowing in the S3 premiere, and the commercial that hinted it, as well. (And from that one early accidental leak of a winged Twilight image.)
