Okay, thanks for the confirmation
Because the artist Yamino (who’s also a Tumblr fanartist) found Derpy’s portrayal in Season 2’s “The Last Round-up” as offensive, and because they were very outspoken about it, is often blamed for the whole “Derpygate” drama, and censorship of Derpy’s name drop, and voice back then in the episode.
Didn’t help Yamino kinda egged on Pro-Derpy bronies too making the drama worse… So they’re a very very controversial person in the fandom.
Also, the fandom has chosen the preferred term anyway, the one which some would be flattered to be compared to instead of insulted by, so you’ll just have to deal.
@smartz118 I don’t need evidence to have known what I saw and had agreed upon by others, and I don’t read rags, whether they be called ‘brony’ or ‘enquirer’ or ‘weekly world news.’ BDR had her messages mysteriously hidden for a few days before they showed up again, as did some other supporters. Also, what, is it so far beyond belief that word may have come down from above to play politician and say something like that to placate both sides? There’s really no evidence towards either outcome, so you may as well agree to disagree on that account.
I doubt feelings will change on any of these matters however, until the real name and voice are not just on DVD, but placed back into the re-airings. You simply cannot allow few negatives to outweigh many positives. The command likely came from some nameless old fuddyduddy overseer without much direct involvement in the show, or knowledge of slang. But since they’ve copyrighted it, there is always hope they may one day shake off this old codger and properly design her boxes and trading cards. And on that day they shall receive total vindication. If they are to ever reverse this decision to ‘play it safe’ around those whom actively hate their license, then I will do the impossible. I will in exchange consider Equestria Girls not the most horrible travesty ever unleashed upon animation (the title will be given back to Adam Sandler, he’ll be so glad I bet)
Again, you DON’T HAVE TO USE DITZY. If you want to connect the word “Ditzy” to “Horrible Dumb Blonde” that’s your perogative, but it does not HAVE TO BE THAT WAY.
If you recall, Sailor Moon, one of the pictures you chose, is the protagonist, meaning she may have started out stupid but she grows mature over time. Deedee from Dexter’s Lab is a character that is purposely annoying and destructive, but I would not have characterized her as “ditzy”, she destroys things intentionally, as opposed to accidentally. Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears aren’t so much “ditzy” as much as “unfortunate child performers with spoiled upbringings”.
I think of Ditzy as more of a those silly Valley Girls that say “like” all the time, who may or may not be dumb. Remember “Legally Blonde”? The main character was a ditz who persevered to become a successful lawyer.
Really. Ruined forever. Okay, that totally justifies the horrible things said and done. Ends justifies the means, right?
@Niggoslav_Krawczyk
If you ever read the previous comments, I still keep track of what she does. People are going all “why don’t you like MLP anymore, sure those bronies can be mean sometimes but lolwhatev” but she is still hung up about it. Bronies, adult men who like My Little Pony, traumatized a person because she was offended by the bad representation of “Derpy, that background Pegasus people think she is a big dope in their headcanon because of those silly eyes”. Even Amy Keating Rogers, the writer for that episode stated that Yamino had nothing to do with the change and told people to leave her alone. I am sure you read the article once, but here is a link. http://bronydramarecorded.tumblr.com/post/44656100613/the-unfortunate-event-that-surrounded-a-cartoon-horse
Just know that even if she SUPPOSEDLY (you don’t have any evidence to show it) sent altered documents only showing disapproval of the portrayal of the gray pony, it doesn’t mean you get to SEND THEM DEATH THREATS. Ms. Rogers said she got tons more positive reviews than negative, and even though they had a new voice for “Derpy” for that episode, the old one is still available for those who look for it. I am honestly surprised people try to logically argue the reasoning for harassing a person, but you can do what you want. Who am I to judge? Oh wait, I am a human being with emotions and feelings, that’s who.
@smartz118 Since you were apparently under a rock for most of the 90s, it’s not just clutzy blonde chicks but clutzy blonde chicks who are horrible people.
Examples:
And for a real life example, well there’s actually way too many in hollywood these days, seems the 90s set it so that it was a primary requirement to become a female star, but these two are particularly inarguably stand-out-terrible examples of our entire race.
She didn’t have to send the letter.
Don’t like something. Don’t watch. Ignore it.
You are free to express your opinions. But when you try to force it down people’s throats and attempt to make it law, as in telling other what they can or cannot do, can or cannot enjoy, that is where the line is crossed. Which was basically what she did.
Remember
Which also means that you completely missed out on Yamhead scrubbing her comments clean of all the rational discourse (including some disabled who came to bat for Derpy, as well as her fanon VA) so that when she sent the link to the staff and they came they would only see maddened buttrage. She engineered the whole thing about as well as Pinkiepony. Only diff is she later regretted it because it could prevent the ascencion of other extras (which it seemed it would do until Vinyl got feat’d so prominently in EqG2)
There’s much similarity between the two, except that Yamhead actually produces something (she used the views and drama to encourage readership of her comic) while pinkiepony is content to just beg for favours and giftset ponies like a dirty whorse.
@smartz118 >>568089 (nsfw)
Someone put effort, damned clear OBSCENE amounts of effort into this.
everything else just kinda pales in comparison to me. There’s no emotion in this image outside of the pure troll. And yet so much effort. Also, Cornelius Yngv.
they hated her because she had the common decency to say “hey, don’t do that, it hurts my feelings.”
Bullshit.
She practically shoved her opinion down everyones throat and all but forced hasbro to remove “Derpy” through underhanded sleezeball methods.
That’s all I’m saying on that. She ruined Derpy forever and that is what she will be remembered for.
“Ruin” is the key word here. Her intent wasn’t to “ruin” anyone’s fun, it was an opinion that she shared with several people, including myself, rather vocally. Why is it that calling a pony with funny eyes “Derpy” considered “fun” while a person who voices against it someone “ruining” that? This isn’t a game. These are all people who are watching a cartoon about talking ponies. You can’t IGNORE the Minority just because they have a different opinion than the Majority. That is why this madness is rather upsetting, and really, a sign of how disturbing how blase people can be about it.
People use other people as examples for their opinions all the time, but I would not go as far as calling them “tools”. I am simply stating a fact that if my relative, who happens to be mentally handicapped, was called Derpy by another person, I would tell them to stop. If any person was called a racial/sexist/ageist/whatever slur, I would vehemently oppose it. I don’t understand what the difference is here?
@PonyPon
Yes, of course I have, but that doesn’t mean I actively attribute “ditz” to “dumb blonde women”. Anyway, I said you don’t have to call her Ditzy Doo, but Derpy is not better.
She was basically this.
Well, that is reality of what may happen to those who manage to piss of a swarm. It’s unfortunate, but that is how it is. Ruin things for the majority just so an individual or a minority with some “emotional complex” could have things his/her or their way. How can they not expect people to be pissed at them?
That is basically blaming the victim, though. It’s not like she INTENDED to incite people to hate her, they hated her because she had the common decency to say “hey, don’t do that, it hurts my feelings.” What Hasbro wanted to do with that was up to them, but the bullies took it to another level and said “WHAT THE HELL, YOU BITCH, STOP MESSING UP MY HEADCANON DERPY PONY, I HATE YOU, DIE, GET RAPED.”
As you can see, there is something wrong here.
And you’ve never heard the more common usage of Ditz as a name for stereotypically dumb blond women?
I’m amazed no one recalls that.
And I certainly never thought Derpy dumb from her actions in the episode.
Clumsy, accident-prone, uncoordinated? Certainly.
But not dumb by any means.
People will find it even more disgusting that you used someone who is mentally handicapped as a “tool” to exact your opinions on others.
But that doesn’t mean you should ruin things for the majority.
Talk about missing the point.
I have a relative that has Down’s Syndrome, and if I saw them being called “Derpy” I would be mad as hell too. And if you think someone wouldn’t be traumatized after what she has been through, you have no idea.
As for a different name, I liked the name “Ditzy Doo” but apparently people think “Ditzy” is more offensive than “Derpy” for some inane reason. Ditzy is more of a clumsy, bubbly, carefree behavior, while Derpy, to me, is an attack on one’s mental state. If Ditzy didn’t work, then some people called her “Bright Eyes” or I proposed “Spritzy Dew”, her being a Pegasus that can control the weather, and Spritzy simply rhymes with Ditzy.
It wasn’t the name alone that was a dig, it was the behavior and speech of “Derpy” on that one episode where she talked. I was amazed Hasbro let that pass when I saw it, and I wasn’t surprised when people were mad that she was made to act like that. But to attack and ostracize Yamino for it was completely out of line.
Maybe because asking that person nicely to stop doing what they were doing because it was ruining it for everyone else didn’t friggin’ work.
Traumatized you say? Over “derp”?
DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP
DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP
DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP DERP!!!!!
There. By my calculations, that should have put her out of her misery. We shouldn’t let her suffer.
DERP.
You can’t leap on a horse this dead and expect me to believe you aren’t looking to start drama.
Yeah, I agree that was a little too far.
But it was an expected side effect to her fallacy. She could’ve avoided all this had she and her follwers kept their opinions to themselves, and not piss off a swarm.
