At no point did I claim that the bible was literally a “good meal.” However, your argument that “the bible doesn’t make [them] happy” based on your presumed knowledge of what fulfills them is silly. It’s also presumptuous. I will not try to answer why people feel they need the bible, since that’s not my intention. My intention is to merely call out the pretentious nature of an argument based on the presumption that you know someone better than themselves over the internet.
“This is akin to saying that good food doesn’t make you happy…” - you’ve missed the point. Bible is not a good meal, it’s collection of different meals, including outright garbage and poisonous one. You just pick ones that you like and proclaim that all this collection makes you happy as whole. Why would you even need bible if you cherry-pick portions of it anyway?
Edited because: Syntax
The thing is, you could have gotten the same ideas, therefore the same happiness, from something else. Getting them from the Bible is fraught with unfortunate problems due to all the ugly ideas and historical / cultural baggage that comes with the Bible.
Don’t you dare play the cry-bully card and try to gaslight us by telling us “yeah, it’s basically the same thing” when these are polar opposites.
Just… wooooow.
Maybe you should reread my commentary.
You don’t have to understand it, but the Bible brings me happiness. Again, if it brings a person happiness and doesn’t infringe on the rights of others, there’s no problem. I don’t know why this is so hard for you to understand. You don’t have to like the Bible. But just because someone else does like it doesn’t mean you have to criticize them for it.
This is just interpretation. There are christian denominations that state that only one criteria to enter heaven - citing one simple magical phrase, and no matter how horrible you were, even if you mass murderer, you will go to heaven. And no, in bible there no prohibition against self harm or even suicide. They are irrelevant.

In Christianity you are supposed to do something good with your life while you’re in this world.
Maybe. But why? Isn’t giving up and die preferable when afterlife is much better than this “dirty rug”?
For some people the idea of the afterlife is the only thing keeping them going, as the idea that our dead loved ones are truly gone is pretty depressing
How exactly bible - the book itself - would bring anyone happiness? Religion, first of all, is uniting community, uniting against everyone who is not belong to it. Community and feeling of belonging brings happiness, not set of beliefs, and let’s be honest, you can’t not cherry pick bible to match it to your already existing moral compass.
Did I ever said “all”? Did I ever implied all? Do I hate christians? What slander? It seems, you misread what I wrote.
Fanatical crusader? Then yes, right direction ;)
Said the troll.
