At no point did I claim that the bible was literally a “good meal.” However, your argument that “the bible doesn’t make [them] happy” based on your presumed knowledge of what fulfills them is silly. It’s also presumptuous. I will not try to answer why people feel they need the bible, since that’s not my intention. My intention is to merely call out the pretentious nature of an argument based on the presumption that you know someone better than themselves over the internet.
Again, the person you’re arguing with is not espousing any of the morally questionable content of the bible. So, your effort to try and disparage their beliefs is directed at the wrong person if your goal is to try and call out the potentially harmful aspects of the bible. At least, it seems like that’s your goal. That’s how you’re trying to paint it.
You would be better served by taking your confrontational and combative attitude to people who actually want to do the wicked things that you seem to be desperately trying to ascribe to Christianity as a whole. Or, you can continue picking fights with people on a brony image website that never asked for it. Power to you. You’re making the world a better place with your sacrifice, I guess.

“This is akin to saying that good food doesn’t make you happy…” - you’ve missed the point. Bible is not a good meal, it’s collection of different meals, including outright garbage and poisonous one. You just pick ones that you like and proclaim that all this collection makes you happy as whole. Why would you even need bible if you cherry-pick portions of it anyway?
“presumptuous” - are you implying that it’s so unique and outworld that there’s nowhere else where you would stumble upon those ideas?
We clearly see who here “kicking and screaming”.
Background Pony #AC4F
No, it doesn’t. Not in itself. It’s certain ideas that are in the Bible that bring you happiness.
This is akin to saying that good food doesn’t make you happy, just the characteristics that make up the food make you happy. This is a pointless statement, and shamelessly self-masturbatory pseudo-intellectual nonsense.
The thing is, you could have gotten the same ideas, therefore the same happiness, from something else.
This statement is so presumptuous as to be without any sort of value.
Getting them from the Bible is fraught with unfortunate problems due to all the ugly ideas and historical / cultural baggage that comes with the Bible.
While it is true that the bible has historically been used as the justification for terrible things, you can say that about literally any idea. I’m not about to engage in whataboutism, but I’m sure you can think of a few secular institutions that have done terrible things which have had negative consequences on the individuals involved and the world at large.
Pretty much the rest of your post is just a rehash of these three points, so for the sake of brevity, I’ll conclude my post with this statement: The person you’re arguing with is not advocating any of the more questionable parts of the bible. No more so than you are espousing anything negative associated with your own personal beliefs. Therefore, your efforts are being directed to the wrong person and are coming off as nothing more than r/atheism-tier kicking and screaming about nothing.

You don’t have to understand it, but the Bible brings me happiness.

@hariester
Again, if it brings a person happiness and doesn’t infringe on the rights of others, there’s no problem.
Some of the ideas that come with the ways people have read the Bible tend to very much infringe on the rights of others, so yes, actually it is a problem. You’re just not seeing it from that perspective because it happens not to be your problem. That does not mean it isn’t someone’s problem in a very real and very impactful way.
@hariester
I don’t know why this is so hard for you to understand. You don’t have to like the Bible. But just because someone else does like it doesn’t mean you have to criticize them for it.
People should be criticized for promoting ideologies and ideological tools that demonstrably hurt people. I’m sorry, but that’s what the Bible has contributed to, and you can like the Bible all you want but you have to accept that 1. the Bible has been used as a tool to hurt people, and 2. those who’ve been hurt in some way by the various people who also claim to “like the Bible” are going to put you in the same camp as their persecutors and you may as a result find yourself being criticized or condemned along with them.
@hariester
You’re exactly the same as the brony haters.
The difference is that Brony haters are persecutors. People who dislike the Bible generally dislike it because they’re either the victims of persecution, or sympathetic to those victims.
Don’t you dare play the cry-bully card and try to gaslight us by telling us “yeah, it’s basically the same thing” when these are polar opposites.
@hariester
But if you spend time criticizing people for liking a thing you don’t understand, the problem is on your end.
Wow, holy shit. You think people who’ve been persecuted just “don’t understand” the thing persecuting them?
Just… wooooow.

This is just interpretation. There are christian denominations that state that only one criteria to enter heaven - citing one simple magical phrase, and no matter how horrible you were, even if you mass murderer, you will go to heaven. And no, in bible there no prohibition against self harm or even suicide. They are irrelevant.

In Christianity you are supposed to do something good with your life while you’re in this world.
In general, religions with attractive afterlife tend to have prohibitions on suicide and extreme carelessness. You can’t just say “fyay everyone else, I’ll take the easiest way out”. You are supposed to help others.

For some people the idea of the afterlife is the only thing keeping them going, as the idea that our dead loved ones are truly gone is pretty depressing

How exactly bible - the book itself - would bring anyone happiness? Religion, first of all, is uniting community, uniting against everyone who is not belong to it. Community and feeling of belonging brings happiness, not set of beliefs, and let’s be honest, you can’t not cherry pick bible to match it to your already existing moral compass.

Said the troll.
Seriously, get off this comments thread. You’re clearly not religious, so what are you doing on a comments section for a religous image? Oh, wait. Trolling.
For the record, I know the ten commandments. Stop pretending that all Christians are unfamiliar with their own religion.
You’re no better than the Twitch streamers that raided the bronies in r/place. “Oh, look, someone likes something that I don’t like. I MUST MAKE THEM STOP LIKING IT BY SLANDERING THEIR COMMUNITY AND POOPING ON THE PLACE WHERE THEY ENJOY THEIR THING.” You’re not accomplishing anything. I’m not backing down on loving the Bible. I’ve met a million other haters like you. You don’t like Rainbow Dash giving Twilight the Bible? Then stopping visiting the comments section of said image.
