That is one way of looking at it, but just reading it, it sounds like this is the series they are going with, and we will see PonyLife get a movie here soon.  
A behind the scenes detail of this is that most Hasbro series get 3 seasons, PonyLife having one in 2020, one in 2021, and a third in 2022.

This is technically the 5th chapter of MLP. It sounds like either A, G5 scrapped the new characters, world, etc… in favor of keeping the current Mane 6 and refocusing the series to a slice-of-life format.  
Or B, G5 is this, and the old ideas for G5 have been pushed down to road, given more time to develop. Either way, the next series after FiM is not G5 as the leaks (apparently incorrectly) claimed.  
I agree on the cost. MLP functions best when it can start humble and heart felt. With the writing staff revealed, and the knowledge that Boulder are a bunch of pony-fans, along with Rainbow Roadtrip (Which was awesome), I think this is gonna turn out really well.

Pony Life isnt gonna be G5 related at all as you see still the Mane 6 being the main characters in the show just this time with less quality to avoid the 66 million dollar budget that Hasbro gave to make this but could still continue to run it.Anyways when Paramount makes the 2021 movie then G5 will start to roll.This is by any means not gonna be G5 at all

So, this is the gear up to the new movie. This also backs concern about whether a new generation of MLP would do well when the start is gambled on the success of one of the most expensive films made by Hasbro. It sounds like Ponylife is the new gen.

It’s in their OG announcment. I mean, G5 ain’t totally off the table, but it would be a surprise. They don’t even have any merchandise if they are releasing a movie in September.  
I think we can still expect something similar to Ponylife tho.

We had a leak 3 years ago that was never brought up. Then Hasbro said that the next chapter of MLP begins with PonyLife, leading up to the movie. Sounds like G5 is either dead, or has seriously evolved TBH.

Nah, nothing confirms that. The G5 leaks just kinda…fell by the wayside. Even the toy fair just revealed Ponylife, and consider Hasbro said Ponylife leads up to the movie, it sounds like G5 evolved into Ponylife

I’m not saying that, but let’s just address the element in the room. People who are racist dicks don’t like the idea of a member of the Mane 6 being black.  
People were pissed over the reveal that Rey would be a Jedi, people were pissed at Allura having dark skin, people are pissed over this. Racism is a part of the reason for a good number of complainers.  
But on the other side, this entire conversation is kind of irrelevant. G5 isnt happening, we know what the next chapter of MLP is, and it is a spinoff of FiM.

Gladly, my armored pone! New toy generation just got announced. Same characters, chibi style, perhaps a bigger emphasis on Princess Luna and Celestia. Also, Luna and Tia look confirmed to appear in G4.5, given their toys exist.  
As for the 2021, it is a new movie coming out, all CGI. No one knows any details on the story yet, but those should be coming soon.

So, there is a huge amount of misinformation out there about G5 AJ. Mostly because when you tell the internet about making something not white, some people are instantly going to go all loopy on you.  
First, Lauren Faust didn’t create this world, not alone. These characters have been around since the 80s, and while Faust got G4 started, nothing past the early episodes of season 2 had anything to do with her. Her co-creator, Meghan McCarthy, also did G5.  
Secondly, AJ in G5 is not a “urbanite speaking” whatever. She is meant to be inner-city, and when you actually read the OG, unaltered leaks, it is pretty clear that AJ is meant to basically be AJ if she had not gone home as a filly.  
The whole series is a combination of what-ifs of the different characters, really, save for Rainbowdash and Pinkie. What if AJ had not gone home, what if Twilight had no magic, what if Fluttershy did, what if Rarity was the royalty she admired in G4.
