I did not notice that. Big Mac is Apple Bloom’s brother while Cheerilee is Apple Bloom’s teacher. That’s not completely random at all.
 
For me, its not important how Mac and Sugar Belle met in universe. I’m curious about the behind the scenes reason why the writers chose Sugar Belle. My only guess is, it gives a reason for Sugar Belle to visit Ponyville. And with her, she can drag along Double Diamond, Party Favor and Night Glider.
 
At least that was my first thought but after realizing Starlight lives in Ponyville, the writers could have easily used Starlight as the very same reason for the Four to visit. So my first idea is moot.

Well I think, since Starlight kept in Contact with her old Village, She suggested that they try some products of Ponyville. So maybe Sugar Belle wanted to try Apple Pies in the first place, she ordered some too see if they are soo good as Starlight told, Big Mac brought them and bamm Love in First sight. Well that´s my Headcannon

I don’t mind this ship but isn’t it kind of random? I mean really REALLY random. I’m curious if there’s a behind the scenes reason why the writers chose Sugar Belle for this role. It could have easily been any pony, Strawberry Sunrise or some random pony we’ve never even heard or seen before… but they chose to use Sugar Belle to play the girl in this episode… I wonder why…
