No more "upvotes galore", "downvotes galore" or "wall of faves"

Oi. I clarified that as the type of notification that appeared for spoilers, not a lack of notification at all. I know exactly what its like when users dont read painfully obvious notifications and then complain when things change, so dont take this as a complaint.
Whether its four months old is irrlevant if you dont check the site forum at all, and most people have no reason to if they use it as a regular booru.
All i said was that i thought it would be a good idea if something should notify the user if they attempt to search the tag.
removal of a tag without any notificationThis thread is four months old, fuck off.

since when has the whereabouts of any tag deletion required the attention of the entire userbase here on the site? let me remind you that, a lot of tags get erased from existence without notice, this tag in particular was notified of on the forums because it was a little more well known than a great many of tags getting erased.
All tag activity, discussion and changes have always been tied to this forum, Site Policy, if you don’t know that’s something many others would refer to as your problem, not the site’s problem, as these aren’t the kinds of information being relatable to the vast majority of the site’s userbase. If you have a site discussing the complexity of its functionality in the notifications, awesome, but I am willing to bet with you that such a site is probably made for those non-casual people in specific and is in no way a site meant for casual usage, sites such as Linux and Github.

The only thing i suggested, because it was presumeably such a popular tag, was a ‘Upvotes galore tag no longer exists, Use score.gte:### instead’ type notification for the benefit of the people who weren’t aware its removal was even being talked about.
It saves that person from looking for an explanation from the forum or other users, or from thinking its a site bug.
I’m not saying you SHOULD do it, im just suggesting it because i feel its good form.
I’ll stop posting on the matter after this, as i feel i’m just annoying you all at this point when that would be counterproductive.

Is there a particular reason there was no notification of this?
I used those tags a lot and it would’ve been nice to know they were going to be deleted before my searches today fucked up seemingly randomly.

Careful, someone might yell at you for not remembering an announcement from last year.
Seriously though, there probably should’ve been an announcement on the top that the change was actually taking effect after 4 months.

Was there actually any recent forewarning or announcement that the change was actually going to happen?

@SuperSupermario24
No. We actually even forgot to do it for a while, but things came to a head when several people started tag-battling over this with other users earlier this week.

I don’t think so, but I doubt there’d be much benefit from it other than to give any late comers a chance to.. well, you know.

Alrighty then.
I still think there should’ve been one, even if it was the day the change was made, like “As of today, the “upvotes galore”, “downvotes galore”, and “wall of faves” tags are being removed. Use search syntax blah blah blah etc learn more
On a different note, if I do a search for

, it comes up with 2 images, even though the tag only says it has 1. The one that’s “supposed” to show up is the spoiler image for the tag, and the other is >>669264, which doesn’t have the tag listed. CrashGordon94

It would help to know that the tags you frequently use were gonna be killed off instead of it being sprung instead of having to magically know this was going on.
Not to mention there might be a lot of people who had objections but didn’t know this was happening.

again, all I’m going to say is there’s too few people who care about these tags, that’s why I think making a huge announcement over it is irrelevant to the site userbase’s interests.
and that problem is really strange. I looked up the downvotes galore tag and it showed me only the spoiler image, it didn’t show me the other one you linked. Maybe clearing your cookies could solve this?
nevermind, found out what the problem was. tag changes
@CrashGordon94
I’m not gonna repeat myself.. I shared my thoughts on this earlier here, you can argue this with someone else if you’d like.

And you’re incorrect, here’s the reason why:
A hell of a lot of people used this thing, it’s not some obscure thing (what you said would be relevant if it was), this is effectively a big site-wide change since so many people searched with that tag, and thus that’s why there should at least have been a banner thingy like with other such changes (like when the site is updated or reminding us about spoilers) since it has the same sort of impact.
You can’t just link to a random bunk argument as an excuse to ignore people.

Those tags were always superfluous and were only left alone because the moderators and admins had more pressing concerns. They unreliably duplicate existing search functions and have caused more than a few arguments in the past. They are unnecessary. Rather than continuing to complain about a decision that was taken and advised about months ago, just use the existing search functionality. It’s more reliable anyway.

And yet, you couldn’t warn people these were going away? They just had to guess it was happening or dig around in the forums at the right time? Because it took a long time for it to come to pass and there was no warning that it was suddenly going to be acted on like there should be for big changes like this. That’s the thing I’m trying to say here: If you need to make changes, that’s fine but doing it without proper warning isn’t. That’s just not good form.
I could bring up my complaints with the search crap, but this is the point I’m focusing on.

No, not many people used these tags, as in watched or searched them. Mostly, some people liked tagging them, and that’s it. About two dozen had them in their watchlist, less than “fart fetish”.
A site notice would be pointless, because either way people would complain that they weren’t online when the notice was up or that it wasn’t noticeable enough. Nevermind that this thread has been on the front page of the forums for months and that the whole thing is a trivial matter.

Probably not that many watched since it’s a general thing, but something I’m sure quite a few would’ve searched.
It would definitely not have been pointless, since without it, how would they have known to look at the forum? They couldn’t have known something like this was going on without a notice.
And not trivial at all, due to this stuff being so widespread.
And even if some still complained, they’d have less grounds to, and it doesn’t justify springing this kind of thing on people.

People shouldn’t be using it for search is the whole point, and if that comes as a sudden realization, well so what. The site search syntax page and the explicit ez-mode score filtering in the search page have been there for four years, it’s about time people started using them over a poorly managed subjective tag.
