Actually, it never has.
They said why they changed it, but never gave anything resembling a good reason why they couldn’t have put up some sort of announcement. How exactly were people supposed to magically know to start digging around in this forum to find out right then?

Not in any way a reason to not give a warning.

That’s… Not like this. Considering:
- That’s redundant with another tag, rather than something else.
- You tend to alias that kind of thing rather than delete it.
- It’s not a widely used thing.
And all of this is completely dodging the simple question of “why not give a warning?”, if you need to make a change fine, but don’t sneak it past people.
@soundtea
Not really a good thing, but not sure if I should go into that, trying to focus on not giving a warning.

It’s already been explained to you many times.
And using gte also means you can set fine tuned settings for score instead of relying on some arbitary tag.

Imagine having a tag for anthro that’s “anthropomorphic”, means exactly the same as anthro, but is only applied haphazardly to a fifth of the images.
It’s just junk.

A. All images are cached by CloudFlare so we don’t feel a thing.
B. Serving up a file that you don’t have to put behind a web application is really fast.
C. Images are not part of the HTML response you get, they are always external links that the browser loads inline.

I’ve noticed the search is a lot faster than almost any other booru, but serving all the thumbnails adds a bit too, right?
The first 50 results for “anthro” would obviously be cached, but searching for something obscure like “princess*, *racism” before doing an order-by-score might mean loading and serving 100 thumbs vs 50?
(edit: if there were more than one page of results for that…)

System doesn’t care about handling searches, it’s built for handling searches.
(Other boorus like Danbooru/Gelbooru/Shimmie are NOT built for handling searches and will often fall over if you feed them particularly hard searches.)

Sorry to bring this up again, but would it be really difficult to add the whole “order:upvotes” syntax to the search, rather than having to choose it afterwards as a second search?
It seems like it would really reduce the number of searches needed, which means less load on the system, right?

People shouldn’t be using it for search is the whole point, and if that comes as a sudden realization, well so what. The site search syntax page and the explicit ez-mode score filtering in the search page have been there for four years, it’s about time people started using them over a poorly managed subjective tag.

Probably not that many watched since it’s a general thing, but something I’m sure quite a few would’ve searched.
It would definitely not have been pointless, since without it, how would they have known to look at the forum? They couldn’t have known something like this was going on without a notice.
And not trivial at all, due to this stuff being so widespread.
And even if some still complained, they’d have less grounds to, and it doesn’t justify springing this kind of thing on people.

No, not many people used these tags, as in watched or searched them. Mostly, some people liked tagging them, and that’s it. About two dozen had them in their watchlist, less than “fart fetish”.
A site notice would be pointless, because either way people would complain that they weren’t online when the notice was up or that it wasn’t noticeable enough. Nevermind that this thread has been on the front page of the forums for months and that the whole thing is a trivial matter.

And yet, you couldn’t warn people these were going away? They just had to guess it was happening or dig around in the forums at the right time? Because it took a long time for it to come to pass and there was no warning that it was suddenly going to be acted on like there should be for big changes like this. That’s the thing I’m trying to say here: If you need to make changes, that’s fine but doing it without proper warning isn’t. That’s just not good form.
I could bring up my complaints with the search crap, but this is the point I’m focusing on.

Those tags were always superfluous and were only left alone because the moderators and admins had more pressing concerns. They unreliably duplicate existing search functions and have caused more than a few arguments in the past. They are unnecessary. Rather than continuing to complain about a decision that was taken and advised about months ago, just use the existing search functionality. It’s more reliable anyway.

And you’re incorrect, here’s the reason why:
A hell of a lot of people used this thing, it’s not some obscure thing (what you said would be relevant if it was), this is effectively a big site-wide change since so many people searched with that tag, and thus that’s why there should at least have been a banner thingy like with other such changes (like when the site is updated or reminding us about spoilers) since it has the same sort of impact.
You can’t just link to a random bunk argument as an excuse to ignore people.

again, all I’m going to say is there’s too few people who care about these tags, that’s why I think making a huge announcement over it is irrelevant to the site userbase’s interests.
and that problem is really strange. I looked up the downvotes galore tag and it showed me only the spoiler image, it didn’t show me the other one you linked. Maybe clearing your cookies could solve this?
nevermind, found out what the problem was. tag changes
@CrashGordon94
I’m not gonna repeat myself.. I shared my thoughts on this earlier here, you can argue this with someone else if you’d like.

It would help to know that the tags you frequently use were gonna be killed off instead of it being sprung instead of having to magically know this was going on.
Not to mention there might be a lot of people who had objections but didn’t know this was happening.

Alrighty then.
I still think there should’ve been one, even if it was the day the change was made, like “As of today, the “upvotes galore”, “downvotes galore”, and “wall of faves” tags are being removed. Use search syntax blah blah blah etc learn more
On a different note, if I do a search for

On a different note, if I do a search for
upvotes galore
, it comes up with 2 images, even though the tag only says it has 1. The one that’s “supposed” to show up is the spoiler image for the tag, and the other is >>669264, which doesn’t have the tag listed.Site and Policy » No more "upvotes galore", "downvotes galore" or "wall of faves" » Post 140

I don’t think so, but I doubt there’d be much benefit from it other than to give any late comers a chance to.. well, you know.

No. We actually even forgot to do it for a while, but things came to a head when several people started tag-battling over this with other users earlier this week.

If you do not specify a field to search over, the search engine will search for posts with a body that is similar to the query's word stems. For example, posts containing the words winged humanization
, wings
, and spread wings
would all be found by a search for wing
, but sewing
would not be.
