Kinda tired today. Gonna take your word. ^_^;
Well, okay, but when did you decide or assume that I was in the group of “people who don’t believe Them’s Fightin’ Herds is related to Friendship is Magic”?
Heck, I’m pretty sure I even said it was. Twice. In two different ways.
No, the answer we were looking for was Persona. Jerry, tell him what his consolation prize is!
I ought to explain, I’ve decided to respond to people who don’t believe
Them’s Fightin’ HerdsFighting is Magic is related to Friendship is Magic by saying something completely random. Not just for you, everypony who’s wrong, don’t worry. :DThe game’s history is definitely similar to Freedom Planet’s in how they started. Not sure about the rest though.
That said, the point I’m trying to make is that TFH cannot be accurately described as a “knock-off” at all, unless you’re trying to assassinate the setting’s appeal or something for some reason. It’s in the spirit of FiM, certainly, but it doesn’t really qualify as an imitation or copy. Or for that matter a copy of a copy. Since the copy isn’t a copy. Unless AUs count as copies now. Copy.
Gah, completely forgot: Stands. XD
Freedom Planet, Stands, the film Multiplicity. Anything else? :3
I definitely made comparisons to Freedom Planet.
Oh? Guess we can put that on the list of comparable shit, next to Freedom Planet. :3
>Them’s Fighting Herds is expressly /not/ an MLP knock-off
Well, I suppose if you want to be pedantic about it, it’s a knock-off of a bastardized version of MLP, one that replaced the friendship and magic with a lot of kicking. It’s a copy of a copy, in other words, which… have you ever seen the movie Multiplicity?
As much as I want to explain why those aren’t good comparisons to how intrinsically important the MLP community is to TFH, I feel it’s more address (to anyone who may come across this) the perception of “knockoff”.
Them’s Fighting Herds is expressly /not/ an MLP knock-off; its universe and MLP’s setting have nothing to do with each other aside from both being largely the brainchildren of Lauren Faust. FiM has an obvious influence on the setting, but it’s honestly not that large of one.
TFH is, however, an example of an attempt to “hijack” a fanbase (for a specific work as opposed to, say, the FPS fanbase) for an initial audience. A great example of something else doing this would be another indie fighter, Rivals of Aether, which succeeded in capturing the attention of the Smash fanbase before it was even playable. That said, I think TFH is more impressive in this regard; while Rivals of Aether pretty much took the Smash fanbase and ran with it, TFH clearly has multiple audiences, including the fighting game community. It has been noticed by the international FGC, aided by its loose relationship to Skullgirls and the appealing appearance of its gameplay, so the MLP fandom is certainly not the only thing going for it.
I’m guessing I’m going to like Oleander’s character more, too, but I love this design the best so far.
I did until they revealed Oleander. Her design AND backstory seem most interesting to me.
Don’t wish, make it happen; support them and their crowdfund, I know I am.
Fausticorn should be the final boss.
Nah, she gets Seth Rogan’s Tandem Engine. XD
Just don’t make her a pain in the ass like any bosses from SNK fighting games.
That would be cool. Seems unrealistic, but I still would like that. Regardless, I wonder if Fausticorn will be in the game.
You’re probably right, given the state of the existing tools. Still, I imagine with more eyes looking at it, good things will happen.
I don’t think I ever tried to even imply that what I wish for the game is what everyone else thinks and if I did I apologize then because my English is a disaster. I’ve read what the people over at EqD comment and I’m sadly willing to agree with what you said, but I think that hyping the game because of that is just wrong (and hella disrespectful to the people behind the project who wants to stay away from ponies, especial emphasis on Faust).
As for that day 1 pony patch? That’s gonna be a looooooooooong day since Z-Engine doesn’t support modding and after years of its release the most people have gotten out of Skullgirls is to change stage sprites and the bgm (and that last one might not even be possible considering how mane6 drifted apart from the original system). Whoever plans to mod that better get some practice right now if they want to achieve anything meaningful on a short timespan.
That was a bunch of fans who patched/finished what had already been released/leaked before the C&D.
I’m saying, once their new game comes out, literally the first thing that’s going to be done is someone backporting pony sprites into it. Day 1.
I thought Tribute Edition already existed.
You know what everyone is really hoping for is in “unsupported” patch that just replaces the sprites with the ponies again.
Don’t act like that’s not what everyone is thinking.
