Well, your critics are just too harsh.if you want to critic someone, then you use polite and good words in order to make people easily hear your critics.
Alright. I may come off upset sometimes, but I do listen to critiques. But at this point, I only have three picture left for ponies, and then I retire.
At any rate, it’s not like I’m attacking you or something. I have an opinion, and so do you and these other guys. We disagree, and we defend our viewpoint. I don’t see anything wrong with that at all. In fact, I happen to think art would get pretty stale if no one ever had any critique to make.
Once again I remind you that this is criticism. It nothing to do with “acceptance”.
@xniclord789x
See, this is what’s funny about this. You say you use comparisons to the real thing, but your supporters say that such comparisons are irrelevant.
Eh don’t listen to him. Some people oddly can’t accept the fact that slightly exaggerated cartoon proportions exist.
Wait, you saying the belly is too close to the ground? Actually her legs are much taller than you see here since she is in the water. Plus, when I saw the first episode of Twilight full of Apple pie, I would use that proportion and make it much bigger, seeing how big pregnancy can be for both human and horses alike. I have compared the sizes of newborns in the show, and it can be pretty big, and just remember that the organs are still there, but shifted. But of course, I draw the ponies differently. And seeing this whole argument so you can make a point is not going to change anything. Many like it, and I’ve even inspired. You’re just being the kind of critic that’s being an ass here. Who cares what you say, seriously. But it turned out into this big argument. That’s how I draw it. Okay? I get paid because they like it. Why change when many already like? And I don’t care if it’s a fetish thing. You’re making yourself look like a douche here. So knock it off.
I’m not insisting on anything, merely voicing a critique that you dislike. The screenshot I used was merely a convenient method of demonstrating a more reasonable reference, and as I already said, comparisons to the real thing is mostly a matter of debunking. As for the dismissals you mention, I’m not really sure what you’re talking about. I don’t doubt the artist when he says he used real references, I just don’t think it came out.
Your point about scraping the ground isn’t a very good argument, since it doesn’t have to get all the way there to be an awkward ratio.
But if concluding the discussion is what you want to do at this point, I’m cool with that.
One perspective’s mistake is another’s intentional embellishment. Honestly, I’m most hung up on your insistence that pregnancy art must needs correspond to (a) a screencap of Twiley full of apple pie or (b) organic creatures with, again, a patently tangential resemblance to anything from FiM, or it’s an insult to all that is sound and sane. The dripping arrogance of your dismissals when peeps note that they did indeed ref the odd horse pic doesn’t help either.
And she can clearly take steps without scraping the ground, or indeed your average set of stairs. Way to counterpoint.
Anyhow, our circle-jerk has outworn what little welcome it had, so apologies to all whose buzz was cruelly murdered by this meeting of the minds (well, half a decayed cortex in my case). Next week I
get sucked into a six-page Hello Kitty(R) litter size debatetake my own damn advice re: eyeroll-and-ignoring.If that’s what you think, it’s fine by me. I’m only responding to people who want to debate it at this point.
@Background Pony #0225
>Like comparing Bugs to an RL jackrabbit.
Whenever I make a point about actual equines, it’s mainly for those who think these proportions are realistic.
>she’s got plenty of ground clearance here
I’d definitely have to disagree with you there.
>we’re arguing for Perfect On-Model Replication
Variations have their place, but the element I’m picking on here is more like a common mistake than a stylistic choice.
As for just ignoring it and moving on, that’s basically what I used to do. But since I have nothing against seeing an expectant mare and since exaggeration on this level seems to occur frequently, I occasionally make a comment or two about it.
*Real equines with neither toon elasticity nor innate magic, nor even more than a passing superficial resemblance to FiM pones. They’re hooved quadrupeds with manes, tails & a few mannerisms, and that’s about it. Like comparing Bugs to an RL jackrabbit.
*Humanoid-analogue development actually works to FiM mares’ advantage: instead of a big lanky filly that has to be squeezed out head & hooves first, once that head’s through the rest of the body’s, well, Cake(R)…and keep in mind they’re doing this with the advantages of toon physics, quadruped posture & a much wider pelvis than human females. And all this without factoring in possibly-telekinetic medical practitioners.
*She’s got plenty of ground clearance here, and the range of limb motion seems more/less un-impaired. Might not be Running the Leaves for a couple months, but hey.
*Sooo we’re arguing for Perfect On-Model Replication(TM). No tweaks, no stylization, Just As The Animators Intended(TM). That’s the visual equivalent of demanding naught but A-1 Spam(C) day in, day out.
And seriously: what harm would rolling your eyes and scrolling on to something else do? I find myself falling back on that with far, far more conceptually buggered-up works than this artist gets commissioned for.
Not sure what to think about it.
Dude, you’re overanalyzing a cartoon horse pregnancy fanart. Plus the fact that there has never been an onscreen pregnancy in the show.
It might be time to ignore it and leave.
Why shouldn’t I compare the two? There is no reasonable basis for such an extreme shape as this. Childbirth would probably kill her.
If you just want to overlook the poor ratios, fine, but don’t expect me to do the same. Even if it is a cartoon, it should still look “right”, and this much expansion does not.
You do realize each pregnancy is different, don’t you? The size of the belly can even diversify
with the foal position. Don’t make me laugh. I’ve seen a lot of pregnant mares and ponies in my life. Her belly looks good. Actually looks pretty good. This guy knows how to draw pregnant ponies. And are you trying to compare a mare to a pony? Really? The pony is even from a cartoon show. Her body is different from a real one. Please, stop this nonsense.
I think you might be thinking too hard about this. If anything, FiM newborn foals are too small.
But enough about that. Let’s just focus on how cute and lovely Coco looks pregnant in a one-piece swimsuit.
It’s not arbitrary in the least. The reasons include:
While one could be slightly larger than too-full Twilight and still look right, there comes a point where it’s way too much.
Do I have to quote de Lancie re: sense? And frankly, Twi’s foodbump might be good for, oh, seven months in, but that seems like nowhere near enough room for a full-term foal. If nothing else, those little pluggers have damn big heads, and there’s layers of subcutaneous fat & muscle to factor in for Mom. Again, your ‘crystal-clear standard’ seems arbitrarily stringent given the lack of onscreen pregpone.
But then we wouldn’t have big pregnant pony bellies to rub.
We saw a newborn in MMDW, and the infant version of AJ in Apple Family Reunion.
The only times I complain is when the exaggeration is not “mild”, but clearly excessive, even for a pony. As I said before, it doesn’t match the style of the show. Something closer to this would make more sense.
Er, were any of the non-CMC, non-Cake foals we’ve seen newborns as well? They grow fairly fast, it would seem.
I also think you’re making too much of a direct proportioned parallel between super-deformed toon creation & physics-constrained RL equine (of a clearly non-pony breed). This whole style-contention angle seems far more subjective than rooted in any hard fact. If anything, mild size/shape-exaggeration meshes visually with the stubby legs & gargantuan eyes, though some artists overdo the resemblance to human baby bumps.
It’s not just that it doesn’t really match reality though. (As you can easily see in this comparison, the belly is extended much farther in the drawing than in the most pregnant actual horse I could find.) It also doesn’t particularly match the style of the show. There’s no doubt in my mind that if by some miracle a pregnant mare was allowed to appear officially, she would definitely not be that enormous.
Also remember, those twins aren’t the only foals we’ve seen.
@xniclord789x
For all we know, the Cakespawn were smaller due to their twin-ness. Less room to take up in utero, for one. As for Proportion Flawz(R)…what the hell, at least this isn’t one of those moon-with-attached-mare pieces. This seems fair enough for a toon-verse with magick & elasticity up the ying-yang.
Congrats bro! You are no a father. :3
Huh, I did really use references of pregnant mares, and mix it with MLP
