Twilight’s really my personal choice of the mane 6, but you know what? I wouldn’t really object to any of them becoming my special somepony, I don’t think. I just love them all, and just recently I’ve been thinking of how under-appreciated applehorse is.

What, if we’re roleplaying this then consider me having cut her down the moment this started! Then checking her vitals, asking her some simple questions to test her awareness and check for paralysis and/or consciousness. Then ordering someone to go get emergency care ASAP while I do CPR, if needed. Her pulse should actually be fine, though; it’s the rescue breaths she’ll need, if that fatal level of paralysis is present. Hopefully Equestrian medical tech. will include some magical remedies that can help her spine heal.
 
Heh. IRL, most of the time it’s old or large people who need CPR/rescue breaths. Rare fortunate case for the responder if it’s an attractive young adult of the opposite sex, like AJ. What? I’m not a professional paramedic, and I’m just saying that it won’t have an “ick” factor to it to overcome :p

It’s weird to talk about someone’s body like that as a separate entity from themselves. What is “Applejack”? Almost gets me kinda existential. What is a being? Are you your body? Your memories? Your choices? Your personality? What is consciousness?

You know, this is one of my favorite episodes (slumber party! :D ), and the last few times I’ve seen this I couldn’t help but notice that HOLY CRAP, she stops with a lot of force. Although the rope wasn’t around her neck, I still wonder if it could’ve broken her neck because of all the force. Though it might pull her teeth out first, or just relatively harmlessly rip the rope out of her mouth. Not sure which one. Exact video in question
 
But if you look at it structurally:  
Fail point one: Ripping rope out of mouth  
Fail point two: Ripping teeth out that were bit into rope  
Fail point three: Breaking neck  
a) No nervous damage (neck brace, pretty much it)  
b) some nervous damage (paralyzed, but can still breathe)  
c) complete spinal separation (ie, hangman’s break)  
Fail point four: decapitation
 
Even if she’s biting it hard enough to break her neck, I really doubt she even could bite it hard enough to decapitate herself, fortunately. The show went with no fail points, of course, but I can’t help but wonder how realistic that is :q

Actually, I decided to look into it a little. It looks like as the tree came in, the rope got caught up on all the little branches and leaves. Then when it casts AJ off, instead of stopping all at once when it runs out of slack, it getting caught on all the debris caused resistance for the entire drop, sort of breaking her fall. Plus, the other end wasn’t around the trunk, it was around foliage, so that end could constrict at the last moment as well; tightening around loose branches and debris, also as make her stop less sudden. So, eh, I guess she might actually have survived alright with some amount of realism, depending on how much stronger a horse’s neck is.
