Executions by hanging usually involve death in a few minutes, I think 20 is the record, I read once.
But I also know a few things on my own not immediately related to hanging, but that apply here.
If the rope is blocking her artery as hanging often does, then it’ll cut off blood supply and she’ll be unconscious in fifteen seconds (the last 5 will be only semi-conscious).
If not, she’ll stay conscious until she chokes out, which can take anywhere from seconds to a record of 20 minutes, depending on how quickly her body burns oxygen (health and how relaxed she is will determine that).
lack of fresh oxygen to the brain causes unconsciousness first, as described above. Then, 10-15 minutes until permanent brain damage starts to occur, and death comes shortly after. That time can vary quite a bit, though, depending on the individual.
Also, if her neck is broken, than those two things hold true, still. When someone’s neck breaks, we call them dead, but in reality their brain is still functioning and all until they die from asphyxiation.
So even if her neck is broken, you could still cut her down, get someone to get emergency services, perform CPR until they arrive, and she can be rescued, albeit she’ll be paralyzed from the neck down and need a machine to breath. Her situation wouldn’t be too much worse than Stephen Hawking’s, though.
Horse’s necks are actually strong enough that they can’t be killed by hanging. Well, maybe the choking to death part, but not the “neck-breaking” part.
