I don’t wanna hear boo about that second rate rhyme, I really should have just kept it to the Scootaloo ones but then I thought of that halfway good one for the first one

Landlords are being seen as greedy and corrupt, but who are actually to blame for them to be needy??
We hear the same pandemic song and dance from a tenant renting a place from my mother in law. The thing is, she has not been paying since before the pandemic began, and is using repeated covid leaves as an excuse not to work. I know that second part because I’m also one of her coworkers. All last year, she’s been to work for maybe three weeks total. She was never diagnosed with covid.
Scrooge (1970) had it beat by over a decade, and went even further: not only did he fall into hell, but it even had a sequence of him trapped there and getting a chain fastened around himself just like Marley did.
The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come just up and abandoning Scrooge in the graveyard in the Mr. Magoo version is also pretty dark, even if he doesn’t fall into hell in that one.
It wasn’t a threat in The Christmas Carol, it was a warning. “If you keep behaving like you have been, you’ll end up dying alone and hated” was the original message. The message you depict is one of outright malice. The ghosts were out to convince a not hopeless case to be better, not to traumatize and terrorize the guy into doing something they feel no reason to do.
Yeah. and oftentimes adaptations/remakes/sequels occasionally become more familiar to people then the original work.
Like the 1987-1996 cartoon version of TMNT is considered the “original” TMNT for many people, but the B&W original Mirage Studios comics from 1984 are the actual originals. Also, many mistakenly think the “Punch-Out” game series started on the NES with “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out,” (leading to some hating the later rerelease versions excluding Mike, due to the license expiring) but it actually started with 2 arcade games before, (and a third spinoff with “Arm Wrestling,” seeing as it had one of the characters in it) and neither had Mike Tyson in ’em.
In fact, those 2 arcade games finally got an official rerelease via the Nintendo Eshop, and “Arcade Archives” line-up.

I would imagine after so many version there is bound to be a Mandela effect on them
I don’t think the original story did, one of the first adaptations that even hinted at “Hell/damnation” was the Disney Christmas Carol, where a terrified Scrooge McDuck sees burning fire coming out of his open coffin. Then it kinda became a common trope for “A Christmas Carol/Scrooge” adaptations afterwards.
@Background Pony Number 17
Yeah, I can understand that too, and honestly merely “charging rent” is not the worst thing for a person to do.
I also don’t get why Filthy is always cast as the typical “evil Rich guy” by the fanbase, as in the actual show, he’s been shown to be actually a nice guy, (probably the only “nice” wealthy/upper-crust character besides Fancy Pants) a fair/generous businessman, and his daughter genuinely loves/respects him. (One of Tiara’s only redeeming factors in her pre-reformation episodes.)
In fact, I didn’t like how EqGirls “Camp Everfree” made him an antagonist, (even making his human design look meaner) and while granted that was a different A.U. “Filthy Rich,” it seems to of been enough for fans to be convinced his pony counterpart is somehow a bad person too.
Not accusing this artist of thinking that, as I don’t know their intentions, but it seems common with many other fanartists.

Almost every version of a Christmas Carol features Scrooge being threatened with death and damnation in hell or ghostly torment etc
I am just doing the exact same thing the original story did except in this year’s version it’s happening to an adult rich person and not a small child.
Scrooge was a landlord, but not all landlords are a Scrooge. And even if they are a Scrooge, it doesn’t mean they’re irredeemable or without morals. Hell, all it took for Scrooge to turn over a new leaf was a bit of supernatural therapy. What’s being depicted in the picture is a “landlord” being threatened with a trip to hell if he doesn’t financially ruin himself.
You do know that Scrooge was, among other things, a Landlord right?
My Queen always was!
Background Pony has a point. The pandemic is affecting landlords just as badly as renters, yet it’s the landlord who’s being cast as Scrooge here. Folks are going to see that as political bias.
Edit: And if you don’t see how this could be seen as political bias, that’s part of the problem.

Fixed for good.
