I don't think the original story did, one of the first adaptations that even hinted at "Hell/damnation" was the Disney Christmas Carol, where a terrified Scrooge McDuck sees burning fire coming out of his open coffin. Then it kinda became a common trope for "A Christmas Carol/Scrooge" adaptations afterwards.

Yeah, I can understand that too, and honestly merely "charging rent" is not the worst thing for a person to do.
I also don't get why Filthy is always cast as the typical "evil Rich guy" by the fanbase, as in the actual show, he's been shown to be actually a nice guy, (probably the only "nice" wealthy/upper-crust character besides Fancy Pants) a fair/generous businessman, and his daughter genuinely loves/respects him. (One of Tiara's only redeeming factors in her pre-reformation episodes.)
In fact, I didn't like how EqGirls "Camp Everfree" made him an antagonist, (even making his human design look meaner) and while granted that was a different A.U. "Filthy Rich," it seems to of been enough for fans to be convinced his pony counterpart is somehow a bad person too.
Not accusing this artist of thinking that, as I don't know their intentions, but it seems common with many other fanartists.
Rub my belly!
