Sadly there are a fair number of fans who just watch the show on its own and haven’t interacted with the fandom or seen the other MLP generations, so they weren’t flipping out with excitement over Grogar’s return like everyone else was.

I know the whole ‘what if Cozy Glow is Chrysalis in disguise’ theory is totally debunked now,
but I still think it would be cool if it turns out she’s some kind of demon and/or a creature created by Grogar,
and she’s just playing innocent as usual.
However, I have enjoyed the surreal contrast of these arch-villains hanging out with a littly filly,
and Grogar apparently treating her seriously as equal to the rest of them,
so I guess at this point I wouldn’t mind if she really, truly is just a messed up kid.
Edited
As we’ve seen in A Flurry of Emotions, the story of how “Gusty the Great” defeated Grogar is a relatively popular children’s story in Equestria. It’s not some long-forgotten tale, hidden away in the restricted section of the Canterlot library. There’s at least one copy in the Ponyville Schoolhouse, and we know Twilight had access to another in Canterlot when she was just a filly. This gets reaffirmed in the season 9 premiere, with Tirek admitting that he thought Grogar was just a legend. For Cozy to not realize who Grogar is was basically the equivalent of a middle schooler saying “Wait, who was that Cinderella person again?”.
Unless she was bluffing (which I wouldn’t put past her), this would imply that she never had a normal foalhood.
Mane 6 and Young 6.
At least that’s what it looks like, if you were to belive tree of harmony.
I am not talking about giving him a “booming evil voice”. I’ve mentoined that before in diffrent comments, but I’d be happy with something similar to how Quan Chi speaks in MKX. Just give Grogar an “evil” accent and let him speak in ethier “upper class” or outdated words (since he is pretty ancient character in the lore) and you would have much more “threatning” enemy.
His red eyes were actually an important part of his desing. Generally, if something doesn’t have pupils in thier eyes, it comes off as “uncomfortable”. With how comical are Grogars proportions (his increadibly small head in comparasing to his neck) making him look more “wrong” would just add to his overall creepyness.
He doesn’t have to be a “Bulk Biceps 2.0” to be threatning. He can be frail. In our current look, he isn’t frail. Hell, his legs are even more beefy than Sombra’s. He is played as this “frail, old schemer”, but he doesn’t look or feel like that. If we were to add more wrinkles, make him skinnier and change his voice, it would work wonders. The reason why his old desing was soo “good”, was because it was wierd. It looked like goat body with a demon/human-like head. It looked disturbing. His red eyes sold on his “evilness”.
It’s kinda like character desing in fighting games. When you look at the character, you have to have basic understanding of thier personality. When you look at current Grogar, he looks mundane and “normal”. When you look at the G1 Grogar, you can outright say that he is evil, because he looks evil.
Adding to that, back then he had much lighter coat, which made him look old. Now with the more vibrant blue, he looks much younger, which again, doesn’t work with the narration.
His current version creates a dissonanse. He is ment to be an Old, evil scheemer, whose power beats any other villian we have seen before. Instead, he looks like a young, normal character who hasn’t yet shown us how “powerfull” he is.
Cranky is much better “desinged” for the “Old, evil mastermind”, since he actually looks like an old character.
Series had an abundance of “good” villians, but I think we can point to Starlight to be the “best” one.
The only thing that happened was the tree pulling them out of the force field and setting them down. Nothing more then that.
There is only one set of elements of harmony.
First off: all we know of his plan is that he wants other villains to join him, so calling them nonsensical is just plain reaching. And honestly, I would have been very disappointed if they gave him a booming evil overlord voice and glowing red eyes since that would make him less of a character and more of a random monster. It’s why I enjoy weak and frail Tirek over hulking red Tirek.
Also, if we go by your logic for what makes a villain bad then…well I can’t find any villain in the entire series who would actually be considered good.
As much as I doubt in “artistic talent” of some of our writters (Lady Writters mostly), I don’t reject posibility of Grogar to shine in later episodes. There were a few characters which grew on me with time.
Our biggest problem now, is that we don’t have time. I really think they should just go with Sombra being the main bad guy, and save Grogar ethier for a movie or G5. Now it would require a writting GOD to develop his character with at least 3 (“Frenemies” and the 2 part finalie are all we can be sure) episodes.
I understand and agree with many of those problems, but I’m still somewhat open to what they can do with the character.
I do not complain only about his appearance.
His voice isn’t imposing.
His plans make no sense.
His actions seem frantic and illogical.
He had no build up to be the “evil mastermind”.
His desing is much worse in comparasing to G1.
We have no reason to think of him as a serious treat.
Maybe, I’m hoping to enjoy him more as and when he gets more episodes
I was more reffering to his character as a whole rather than just appearance, though I will say it’s not the most threatening
he needs more flames, and maybe a couple skulls as accessories and/or armor
yeah…. I like Discord and Tirek design better. but this is still pretty badass
The fact that we have seen soo little of him is the problem.
We could have had hints towards his appearance for seasons. We could have him be shown as the one who is behind everything. We could at least have him mentoined (outside fairy tales) before now.
Instead, the “Grand final enemy of the Mane 6” is just as mundane and “generic” as all the other enemies we have had over the season.
Man, how do you enjoy anything with that attitude? It’s like you find flaws in every single thing you set your eyes on.
Also, all your arguments about Grogar doesn’t hold up due to one outstanding detail: we have barely seen anything of him yet! All we’ve gotten is a brief introduction that later episodes is supposed to build off of. You can call him anti-climactic all you want if his actions in the finale doesn’t impress you, but right now its simply too early to judge.
Said by an anonymous account. I think you’re the one trolling here.
Troll.
First: There is a diffrence between “enjoying” episode and thinking it’s good. “Perfect Pear” is a enjoyable and re-watchable episode, but it’s just a rip-off of “Romeo and Juliet” with no creativity behind it.
Second: I have never seen anyone who would like this episode AND had any criticizm towards it. Everyone are ethier in the “It’s perfect” camp, disregarding all the flaws with paceing and character development in the episode. The other is the group that says “It was a bad episode, but it was somewhat enjoyable”.
Third: If you want to argue about something, do that under your own name. Discussing stuff useing anonymous account makes it look like you are ashamed of your opinion and don’t want to have it being attributed to you.
Getting in and out of Tartarus is bloody easy. We had Tirek do that at his weakest form, Cozy had to get in to meet Tirek to be able to learn from him. We’ve also seen that there are artifacts that aren’t that uncommon that will open the doors AND we seen M6 opening the doors with brute force. Suffice to say, It’s pretty easy to get in and get out.
Bringing Sombra back from the dead is a bit tricky, as we don’t know if he was fully dead. He could just as well be hidden as he was back in “Crystal Empire”.
He gave Tirek energy of around 30~ ponies. With the fact that this could be from any race and the fact that background ponies are portrayed as rather weak in magic makes it not really that “treatning”.
Other villians did have build up before thier appearance. At least some of them. Starlight kept appearing in the background throughout whole season 5. Yes, she was introduced ealier, but only as a minor antagonist.
Grogar just seems to appear out of nowhere and does absolutely nothing.
What’s worse, he showed us already how incompetent he is. He allowed for one of his “teammates” to go on thier way (didn’t even try to threaten him to stay or reason with him). Sombra was arguably his most powerfull ally, yet he completly gave up which raises the potential of failure in his plan. He was waiting soo long to “attack equestria”. Instead of attacking while Luna were Nightmare Moon, Celestia was absent and there were no elements of harmony, he waited till we have 5 princesses, 2 sets of elements of harmony and a God of Chaos on pony side.
*knows who Grogar is*
So, there’s this thing called the Internet…
