@Tavi959
Speaking of Sailor Moon, do any of you watch SM Crystal?
Yeah, the first two seasons/arcs left a lot to be desired..
Thank god, they’re able to salvage it by bringing in a Precure director (Season 3 onwards).
@Tavi959
There’s only a handful of anime I actually like, and at the risk of sounding like a hipster, none of the more recent stuff falls into that category :P
@CompletelyBatty
Given the super powers and Magical Girl Transformations that they’re required to do every movie/40-minute-special, it very nearly is already.
@Tavi959
I just love the magical fantasy pony filled world the show gave us, putting them in a generic highschool as humans just feels like it strips away 90% of everything I love about the show. Hell you could tweak a few things here and there and you’d have a magical girl anime.
Why does that claim or crowd of people even exist, aren’t we all humans?
Technically the Equestria Girls aren’t humans in a way (candy colored skin and all) but still..
Of all things someone can criticize about EG, complaining them being human-like is impractical and self-defeating.
@TheMultiBrony21
Yes, I’m aware that they refer to themselves as ponies. I can call myself a tree, that doesn’t make it true. But that’s not the primary point here.
I can already hear thousands of people disagreeing with the idea of a human in Equestria, hanging out with ponies. Because it’d feel like someone’s terrible fanfic. The idea behind Equestria Girls was “take the magical horses and put them in our world as people, then throw in magical shenanigans” and it was done this way for a reason.
And that reason was to placate the “Eww, humans” crowd that inevitably popped up anyway. I’m not saying everyone has to like it. Like with Starlight Glimmer, there’s nothing wrong with not liking Equestria Girls.
I’m just tired of the same weak excuses after five years of it. People are still making the same complaints while justifying the repeated idiocy of the Mane 6 this season. I don’t think it’s justified at all to have Rarity and Rainbow Dash at each other’s throats to make a point. I don’t think Twilight making it worse by having everyone follow them around to witness it was brilliant either. For a team that works so well together, they’re awful teachers.
At least Equestria Girls has had consistent character development.
@TheMultiBrony21
I was pointing out that it’s a poor argument. It’s always been a poor argument.
I’m referring to Generation 1, in which there was absolutely a human. Seeing how G1 was what inspired Faust in the first place (as in Friendship is Magic utterly owes it’s existence to G1) it’s ultimately flawed logic to claim that humans don’t belong in MLP because P stands for Pony.
And they’re not ponies. They’re Equestrians. If they were actually based on actual ponies, they wouldn’t look cute at all. They’re cute because they look nothing like ponies.
You act as if a spinoff requires a different intellectual property to be created despite the completely shared universe and premise.
“My Little Pony” is a brand name in case you hadn’t noticed. And if you go all the way back to the original My Little Pony, there’s a human there. By your logic, the series that inspired Faust in the first place was flawed from the beginning.
@Ihhh
This. EG humans are disproportionate in largely the same way ponies are. The only difference is a massive bias towards the pony model that makes me wonder how many people realize what they’re saying when they say “I like the horses more than the people because of the way they look.”
EG Fluttershy is adorable because being a human gives her the means to express her shyness better. EG Twilight is definitively adorkable with her large thick framed glasses. And for her one appearance so far, Starlight Glimmer looks even better as a human.
The horses, meanwhile, are acting less and less like horses and more like humans. Which makes their legs bend awkwardly in ways horse legs aren’t supposed to bend. If they’re going to act like magical technicolor people… what’s the issue with making them magical technicolor people?
@TheMultiBrony21
There’s a couple I’m not that into, but then only one I thought was outright awful so far is non compete clause. Just straight up bad writing.
On the flip side we finally got a celestia episode, the glim glam/sunburst parent episode was great, and we got more chrysalis.
