as @northern haste points out, the show is not even consistent with itself. sometimes twilight can teleport, sometimes she can’t. sometimes pinkie’s clueless, other times she’s wise. there’s a dial labeled “who’s a dumbass this episode” switch with “spike” and “twilight” on it, and it can only point to one or the other. sometimes ponies are made of helium, sometimes they’re neutronium.
 
here’s an explanation if you absolutely require consistency in your canon: the movie was also a movie in equestria, reenacting the actual events that occurred. the mane six gave their opinions on it, which while overall positive, were agreed the movie took a lot of creative liberties to be more dramatic.

Yeah because the stress some having some ponies want a ticket from you is totally the same as something life-threatening.  
And as I recall she didn’t even do it on purpose  
She didn’t teleport when she was being attacked by the Hydra and she didn’t when she’s being captured by chrysalis in season 2.

why does it matter if the movie doesn’t exactly line up with the show? you could rationalize anything. maybe there was a bug going around at the time inducing lowmagickia. maybe twilight hit her head, and the animators were too dumb to think it’d be a good idea to show that on camera. maybe there was a warp storm. maybe we can just assume twilight’s incapable of teleporting in the movie, and enjoy it, regardless of whether teleportation was her big thing in the show.

yeah, it’s not like she was thinking about committing international espionage and stealing the pearl that changes ponies into other things, when she already had a perfectly good way to do so herself.

as for the whirlpool, did I mention twilight is really good at teleportation?

Also think about it from a movie standpoint twilight using that spell would have confused people who didn’t watch the show and it would make no sense in the story of this movie

That’s kinda the thing, though… I was annoyed with how the show was recently treating its characters, so I thought the movie would make up for that. I mean, it was in development long before these flaws started cropping up, right?
 
Point is: in the show, it was just an excuse for lazy writing. In the movie, it feels like everything prior to this, even the five seasons before these issues started cropping up, was meaningless. I guess I was hoping the movie would be more than just mediocre…
 
Also, I just hate flanderization, okay? It simplifies characters who otherwise have more than one personality trait and makes them way less relatable than they were before.
