This episode was one of the instances where Starlight was acutally used in good capacity. It was an entretaining episode, and it rings true of several aspects of the fandom, which is why many are bothered by it.
 
Everything about Fluttershy’s development is stuff that I’ve had to deal with a lot in discussions about my favourite pony.
 
The two things I would’ve removed from the story. The first was the fans were boycoting Rarity’s business. I know it happens in fandoms, where they are so adverse to change they just straight up turn on the thing they once loved, but I’m extremely bothered by it from an in-universe perspective. Rarity has worked way too hard to earn her place.
 
And the second is all the mentions of Daring Doo all over the episode. The idea that RD wrote about the real Daring Do in the journal and they published those entries for all of Equestria to read is a can of worms that should’ve be buried in concrete.
 
Basically, the meta of the episode is excellent, but I’m extremely bothered by the in-universe implication of a couple of aspects of the story.

Nah, Starlight role was good. She was a better choice because she know how deal with ponies hardly quiet, like Twilight at the season 5 beginning.

Apart from that comment just spouting utter nonsense. I never said Spike could only support her, just that it would’ve been much better in this instance. Stop putting words in my mouth so you can complain about the fandom smh. I’m not the only one thinking this.

Now all Starlight appearances are forced. Despite she’s a pony who can confront mares and stallions about a lost the point of an idea. Starlight was a good choice.

Dude, what the Hell? You’re acting like Spike is the only one allowed to be supportive to Twilight and the others. Or that Starlight is the only one not allowed. Which both are pretty dumb. Twilight has had folks other than Spike help and support her. So really, what you’re saying is more than a nitpick anyway. But honestly, I expect nothing less form this fandom…

That he’s “saved” from some insults doesn’t excuse that Starlight was the most forced and obvious Spike stand-in ever in this episode. Some lines, delivery and actions totally feel like Spike, not her. It was a bad change.

I honestly thought Starlight was the better choice. She sort of provided an outside pov. It was interesting and great for her development to see her being this supportive to everyone and knowing what to do. Plus, if Spike was in it, he would’ve been caught in the crossfire. He wrote in the book a couple of times and lord knows they would’ve said some nasty things about him too. I can see it now: “What does he have to add?” “Nothing would change if he weren’t a part of it” That would’ve torn him to pieces too. And Spike gets his own episode next week so he’s fine skipping out on the supporting role for Twilight for once.
 
Also, how do you know Larson had Spike in the original script?

Spike was there in the original larson script but got replaced by glim glam so it could be more relevant to 2017.
 
Think next week its gonna be a Spike episode? those always give something to talk about.

I didnt really care about the meta-ness and jabs at the fandom. I’m just salty that Spike wasn’t included for no real good reason and that everyone but mane 6 were complete assholes. Even the ponies who already knew them.

Well, having fans is something people can’t control, and arguably also kinda realistic. (Especially, considering how many times the Mane 6 saved the world.) Ask any fanartist, or whatever who’s had to put up with both good, or bad fans. Believe it, or not even some popular bronies can relate to the Mane 6 in the episode.

I think as I tried to point out many times before, it wasn’t about fans, it was about the downside to popularity, and how you should deal with it, without becoming sour, mean, or sad about it. The fandom nods were just meant as li’l jokes/nods for the fans to chuckle at. I’ve seen fandoms portrayed much worse before in other shows.
 
Paul Dini, and such made fun of nerds in “Freakazoid,” and such, but said they actually love nerd/fandom culture, and consider themselves nerds too. (Like when the Nerdator captured them in one episode of Freakazoid.)

they should just stop doing episodes about fans, we have enough episodes of them going on in the fandom as it is.

meh. It’s a meta thing that came off a bit heavy handed to me, but still funny. Some things validate the community, some aren’t.

Change in how? Has he own up to his mistakes or constantly make excuses on why he doesn’t watch commentary videos on him and what makes him a dislikeable person? Is he still talking about children shows needing morals? Is he finally working on his cartoon project or has he ditched it and decided to walk on the “internet critic” road?
