People that primarily use other sites and are otherwise inactive here tend to brigade images with socio-political “leftish” messages. You see the same behavior on news sites, reddit, youtube, or anywhere with a comment or voting system.
 
It always reflect poorly on the people that actually use the site, but what can you do about it?

I question this site given this number of downvotes

The amount of shipping of pony/EqG/humanized homosexual couples and their overall endorsement should speak for itself. 
Even under not supporters most are just indifferent about the LGBT (I can only speak for my country tho. America has such an hostile political landscape)

Well, while they’re both LGBT, one is showing gay pride.
 
But the other is showing AJ as a transgender. Which is a more sensitive subject. And portraying one of the Mane 6 as a transgender just really pisses people off quickly. At first, I thought “The artist went too far.” Now I think, “Get over it.”

And you proved my point. I am conservative and support gay rights, but you must understand the sensitivity of the subject, I am a Christian and I support gay rights.
 
And my very statement would probably get rocks thrown at me depending on the protest.
 
But still: People might be downvoting this for bad art, they could be downvoting it because they hate LGBT images. But, it could be the fact that some Derpi users are sick of politics. Remember Trump? Remember the Obama bashings? While I personally agree and laugh at the images, I still believe that none of the images should even be in the Booru. I feel these artists are stiring up drama so they can get their message through sometimes, or they just expect the reaction and don’t care. But I’m drifting off.
 
Yes, people may downvote it for quality.
 
Yes, people are downvoting this because of it being LGBT.
 
Yes, people may have actually downvoted this because of race. Which is sad, actually.
 
But what I think is the main reason for these downvotes is because the users do not like political images on Derpi and have grown sick of it, so they just downvote. And here I say: Grow up! Filter it if you hate it so much.
 
What is actually so upsetting for the situation is that people will upvote lesbian porn on here, but they cannot support the real thing, which makes them hippocrates (Really, Google? XD).
 
If the people cannot take the heat, they should filter it and live with it. Instead of downvoting it.

In the United States, where this artist lives, 18 is the age of majority. There’s no subsequent “tests” to determine someone’s suitability for the job of being an “adult”.

Some people are responsible as fuck at 15, just like if they were adults, and others (like me) are 23 but act like 10 year old kids.  
About marriage, I have ever seen a successful “22 or less years” marriage couple. Some of my cousins got married at 18, and now they live like shit.  
You shouldn’t marry if you don’t have a good job or career. And having those usually takes years.

My highly conservative family have taught me that politics are very important and that even if I can’t quite legally vote I should know where I stand on political issues. the fact you are calling someone 8 months away from being able to legally vote a child is kinda annoying.

A seventeen year old is just one year away from voting or being old enough to marry of their own choice. If that is not an appropriate time to develop a social consciousness, then when is? After they are already married and voting?

I never met anyone here openly hating on gays, trans etc.  
It’s just that these stuff are cringe and too political.  
I’m pretty sure that if I made an heterosexual pride propaganda image in a non-comedy way, it would get lots of downvotes.  
I just upvoted the Twilight and Sunset Pic btw even though its a little cringe.

I’ve downvoted this pic just because seeing a child (as suggested by the drawing style and confirmed in the artist profile) making a political statement is cringey. It would be equally cringey if the pic were promoting the opposite point. Branding all downvoters as LGBT haters is incorrect, no matter how tempting it is. (Sure, I’m an “asshole” in your terminology, but this doesn’t make your point any more true.)  
(Of course people aren’t downvoting the quality; is there such an obligation? Downvoting means “I don’t like it”, for whatever reasons.)

A picture trying to convey a message that can easily be interpreted as political and doesn’t sufficiantly cover it with humor will get more downvotes and sometimes still then as it combines these aspects with mlp, headcanons and shipping. An image that was just outright homophobic would get lots of downvotes, too (or be deleted by the mods, I guess). Of course the other pictures get less downvotes since they aren’t “artist interpretations” and just regular old fanart. I am just saying that the character of the picture is something people can dislike and there aren’t that many people that are just outright homophobic on this site.

It’s because that picture is superior to this one in how it conveys the message (or doesn’t) and it also looks better.
