Not quite what I was referring to.
I meant you can’t try to condense six seasons and counting of familiarity and development into the fraction of episodes set aside for Starlight as is without the serious issues debates about her are usually about. Secondary character more the level of Discord? Sure, go nuts.
But as a whole new Mane Character? A Fool’s Errand, not just in concept, but it seems in attempted execution.
The rest, you can keep that little tantrum. I don’t like Pranks or Fluttershy either.

Well shit, let’s not try and make a divisive character less divisive, let’s just dump her and any freshness she may have brought to the table back outside and let’s carry on with our Status Quo Is God shit instead!
I get it. Change is hard. But character development takes time. Christ, it took Fluttershy 4 season to even learn how to be less of a doormat and she’s adored by the fandom like she’s the Dali Lama. Probably because again, Status Quo Is God.
This is why shit like 28 Pranks Later happens. Because everyone has a fucking fit at the slightest hint of change. I’m frank;y sick of hearing this shit. Starlight is here to stay.
Edited because: Rule #0
That is an awful thing to attempt.
Not trying to be belligerent, not trying to be argumentative. I will just say that some of us, at least, were comfortable with the main cast as they were, and didn’t feel the show needed new characters. There was a lot of worldbuilding they could have done, but chose not to. There was a lot of exploration of existing characters beyond the main six they could have done, but chose not to.
I am not sure I follow the motivation, or understand what storytelling need was answered after six years by suddenly dropping a new character in and making her the new star of the show. From a storytelling perspective, it’s difficult to understand what they wanted to accomplish. From a Hasbro-as-seller-of-toys perspective, it’s only too clear what the new character was intended to be.
And, in the highly unlikely event that anyone connected with the show ever reads this, I’m not outraged. I’m not enraged. I’m just sort of disappointed, and I’ll get over it.
Gee I wonder why they’re trying to give the new mare more screentime. Possibly to try and develop her character to the level of the rest of the Mane 6…
