Because while Tirek was cool, the rest wasn’t anything special, and even Tirek got dumber as he became more powerful. At least TWaBA was being different and had a lead other than Twi for once.

Really frustrating though the royals have to be shafted for the sake of Twilight&co though.  
And also poor handling of them if they aren’t allowed to do anything because they aren’t the main characters.  
Luna’s case hurts worse than Celestia’s since while Celestia managed to protect Equestria for a 1000 years(no way in hell there wasn’t any threats popping up during the 1000 years gap) on her own, Luna’s track record looks worse in comparison due to losing a 1000 years. And the fact since her return from the moon, she just kept getting sidelined or taken out.  
(In this case its worse with the royals are still shafted even when Twilight&co gets taken out. They could have it so Luna at least got to shine there too, as in not get captured, at least to make up for apparently she freaking slept through the changeling attack where her sister was in danger)

True, but we have to remember why. Twilight is the main character of the show, so they have to give a reason why the royals can’t do anything about it instead, and what better way than to kidnap or disable them? With TWaBA, they wanted Starlight and her team to have to spotlight, so it was the royals and Twi and co. this time around. At least unlike season 2’s two two-parters, they remembered that Luna exist during the conflict.
 
I fail to see how outside of even more Luna fanservice. Better Cadence since she’s in a remote region and had much less screentime and development, plus a changeling who can detect something amiss.
 
And you can say that about anything.

The thing is its happening way to freaking much.  
Just because its been happening since the beginning doesn’t make it so any other instances of it happening not allowed to be glared at. Especially with certain times it happens when its worse than the others.
 
It would have been better if it was something like at least Luna not getting taken out there.  
What happened in the finale is different from the rainbow laser of doom happening yes, but it could have been executed better there..

Royals being useless has been a thing since the first ep, so I fail to see how this is a special case.
 
And at least it’s something different than Twi and co. using friendship beams and either banishing or forcing redemption.

Bleh.. I just hated how the writers handle Luna and Celestia during crisis stuff.  
Especially for Luna..
 
I just resented this finale a lot for many reasons.  
Most likely my least fav of all honestly..
