Yeah… Facebook sucks… they optimize the image compression for quick viewing of photos that friends upload
 
So… it’s not very high quality
 
 
What’s funny is if you upload an image under a mb to a page then it’ll keep it a PNG, but if it’s in jpeg format then no matter the file size it automatically converts to a 70 quality jpeg
 
 
You can use an online compressor to keep files in PNG format but reduce the file size so you can get it under a mb
 
I used one and it was the EXACT same as a 95 quality jpeg, but it kept it in PNG format
 
 
Of course any image you upload to your profile is going to be jpeged.. it’s only images uploaded to a page that get to stay as PNGs as long as they are under a mb

Anything below 80 imo is still drastic, actually
 
Really just… don’t go below 99…. 99 or 100 quality is good… anything lower and it starts to drastically reduce the quality of the image without reducing file size a whole lot more
 
Absolute lowest 95… 95 isn’t bad as long as you don’t zoom in
