Lol, this would be a literal (well, almost?) Instance of it - depending on whether “gallows” refers to that specific structure or if it’s anything makeshift for hanging.
But yeah, “gallows humor”. It’s a tag. I’ll add it.
Yeah, Flutters here is the real saddest XP
Happist
Same
Sadist….
For fictional characters it is really easy to feel sympathy for and relate to them. If we were half decent at running our own lives and lived in the same area as them, it would be nice to think that we could help out with at least some of their problems.
>It’s 10:15, do you know where your exestentiality is?
Cuz’ this guy don’t
The show very much establishes them as psychologically human, so I’m sure it is the same.
It’s not like the writers have a large selection of sapient species’ psychologies to pick from, yet :p
I was just asking because often intuition can be wrong - but it looks like this is a case where it’s right. Showing love and affection really would help a lot, apparently. Huh, neat.
You know, we only feel/think this way about Fluttershy, and valuing her so much, because we’ve gotten to know her over the course of the show - all from the place of safety of being viewers, rather than individuals interacting who have to decide how to react to things.
I wonder, though - if we were in Ponyville, obviously MLP wouldn’t be a show, and
for some reason despite having saved the world a few timesshe would be just some random face in a crowd to us, a background pony in our own lives, how many of us would care about her as much as we do, from this vantage point? How many of us would be as aware of her problems as we are from here - or even care?So how many “Fluttershy”s like this, are in our own lives but that we neglect to even notice?
I’d assume it depends on the person and why they’re depressed. But generally, it’s a good thing. Ponies may be similar in this regard, but it’s no guarantee.
When hanging or being cuddled? That sounds like a list of possible responses to either, more appropriate to the first :p
Depends on the person, really. They might lash out, go limp, or any number of other reactions.
But cold analysis and a freaky knowledge of the subject is my answer to everything! XP
Yeah, the important thing is, Flutters’ neck ain’t breakin, so even if she did hang herself, she’s still very savable. Small risk of blood pressure effects killing her instantly or later, but all-in-all, she needs serious loving :q
I wonder how depression would respond to being loved like crazy and cuddled and stuff? :q
Well, when I said pressure, I did mean general force, not actual pressure… but… let’s not add the ‘science in the comments’ tag to a pic about suicide.
Also, blood choke causes a pass-out a lot faster than asphyxiation, sometimes. Sometimes various complex physiological effects can cause a nigh unto instant passing out.
Pressure can’t break a neck alone, or diving deep enough would do it. It takes some specific qualifications: 10 pounds of pressure distributed, how? probably over a very thin area. Also bear in mind the inertia of the entire body is backing up the force.
Calculated some numbers from that table of drops from earlier: 1352 Newtons / 997 ft-lbs - 1292 Newtons / 953 ft-lbs, distributed over a strip about 1” wide across the neck.
Yes, I realise that a broken neck is rare in a suicidal hanging, that was part of my point.
That was, afterall the entire point of the gallows.
But either way, one is meant to jump from a vaguely high point, not justhang in mid air and choke. Asphyxiation isn’t particurlarly pleasent after all.
but also, it’s horrifying to think that it only takes 10pounds of pressure to break a human neckAlso that’s long drop. There are plenty cases where it’s meant to be a lot more torturous than that with shorter drops. This might classify as suspension, I believe, since the drop is virtually nill.
Drops go from 5’1” to 8’6” in the most modern columns. 3’6” ponies (on four legs) would mean that the slack should come down to most of her body if it was enough to break her neck.
Broken necks are nigh unto unheard of in suicidal hangings. Extremely rare. Usually they only break in judicial executions. And there’d still be plenty of wing spasms even if it broke… It’s just they wouldn’t really help at that point even if she flew…
But, yeah, there’s no way this would break her neck, unless it was freakishly weak, in which case the next carrot Angel throws at her would break it :q
The real issue we should be adressing, is how that is a completely improper method of hanging, perpetuated by the media as the proper technique, when, in reality, one is meant to falla significant distance, applying anywhere upwards of 10lbs of pressure to the neck, snappimg it instantly, and leaving no time for her to be lucky with eradic wing spasams.
Yall people need to learn yo shit.
