I just love every generation and I don’t see crazy faces anywhere.  
It’s not that hard to accept all of them.

Well… The murders only happen in hallucinations, dreams, and storytelling scenes.

I’d find this joke funnier if Pinkie’s face were that of her G4 toy self, since that’s what she did in the actual episode, turning into her G3 toy self.

As aforementioned, yeah, G1 and/or G3 fans became fans because they were children, meaning nostalgia is a partial factor. Why G4 attracts newcomers of late-teen and adult ages is its ability to appeal to all ages, like Mario, without being overly childish and simple, like Mario… Mario is capable of both. lel
 
Extensively, these sorts of things make male fans of G1 and G3 between infrequent and rare. Obviously, having a female sibling would have increased one’s chances thirty or ten years ago for G1 or G3 respectively. :3
 
I cannot personally attest to what makes G3 appealing. Thankfully, others in this thread can. I can however attest to G1’s appeal: Because characters are occasionally murdered. ;D

I laughed my arse off at this - I think it’s actually slightly funnier than the original joke in the episode, because of the unexpectedness of it. :) Also it doesn’t have the overtones of potentially mocking G3, which I actually still quite enjoy. :)
 
And just for reference, I’m a G1’er, an early 80s boy who fell in love with the show way back near the very beginning (as did my sister) and never outgrew it; all the gens are great in my eyes. (Except for the Newborn Cuties… =shudder= even I have standards. :P)

It seemed a lot more of an affectionate shoutout to past Gens than any kind of snark; the really iunfuriating thing about it was that The Hub effed up the surprise by putting it in the promos the week before the episode aired.

What’s kinda sad though is the actual joke in the show is funny but not funny. The not funny part being Hasbro pandering to stupid haters who hate past generations (I love G1 and think G3 is decent, not a fan of Tales nor G3.5, hate Newborn Cuties).

Well Lauen Faust was a fan of older Generation. Without Lauren Faust no Reboot.
 
And for me G1 was better in a few occasions. The anatagonists for example. Don’T get me wrong people. I like Discord, NMM, G4 Tirek, Sombra, Starlight and Chrysalis a lot, as well as the minor antagonists like Flim/Flam and Ahuizotl.
 
But they have nothing on Lavan, Grogar, Arabus and Crunch and so on…

She didn’t say G4 won’t die. G4 will, no doubt, and any future iterations will have between a miniscule or mountainous amount of support. The question is when, which is so far unforseen until corporate says. :j

Not to be That Guy™ or anything, but there was never actually a break between G3/G3.5 and G4; new-release G3.5 and [shudder] Newborn Cuties merchandise was still coming out in 2011 alongside the first wave of G4 merch, and I was still finding the odd occasional G3.5 coloring/activity book on the stands in late 2012. It’s entirely possible that the 2017 movie will mark the formal end of G4 and set up the start of G4.5 or G5, the way many of us were afraid Equestria Girls was going to do before Season 4 was announced.

One good news I’ve noticed is the stupid old generation MLP hate seems to be dying down now (lemme guess, one reason you don’t like G4 is the stupid old hate?), though I wouldn’t necessarily judge the upcoming movie yet, and no one said whether G4 will end after the film or not.

I used to not like G3, but I’ve changed my mind now (played the Runaway Rainbow game which was good). It’s not the best MLP generation IMO, but it’s good. Best generations IMO are G1/G4 and worst generations IMO are Tales and Newborn Cuties.

Likely if one has seen E03 before this comic and/or G3, like most of us. :)
 
Additionally, I’ve seen several G3 fans, who all seem to have become that as a child born in the late ’90s, early ‘00s, and I cannot find a reason to dislike G3 before I’ve ever seen it, unlike other fans. :T

This is actually funnier than the joke in “Too Many Pinkie Pies” (though that’s kinda funny too).
