Pony CYOA Discussion Thread [SFW/NSFW(?)]

You do have a point. But FQX and CQ are not the only cyoas posted here on DB, there’s a few others here. As I mentioned earlier in this thread this is partially an experiment. There’s quite a few people out there that like cyoas, but don’t feel comfortable about going to other sites to discuss it. I do hope that this does not become “the CQ/FQX chat thread” as I meant for this to be more than that. But we shall see.

Thanks for exposing me to Ficfic’s work, Psker. I never would’ve known about his quest had it not been for your uploads.
 
About this “Life in Ponyville” quest, that sounds like the kind of story I’d be interested in. You say only one thread exists, but was more made that just got lost from being taken out?

I’m not sure. The quest is fairly old (2013) and attempts at archiving threads were a bit more spotty back then. One of the other BP’s on this thread said that only one thread existed. So that might mean that the creator might have canned it after the prologue which is a shame as it looked very promising.

I didnt say “dont bring 4chan into this”, but rather “dont make this an exclusive 4chan thing”. And i dont care about psker, this thread is not about him specifically. If you have a problem with his presence, then fill a report.

If it was simply canceled after one thread, then that’s different. I’m more willing to deal with “what could’ve been” than “what was but vanished”. It’s just when something comes into existence on the internet and then disappears from simply not being archived, then I think it’s a real pity.

if you wanna discuss cyoas, there’s like, a discord server for that btw xD with lots of people there and they all read cyoas and some also write them so you can chat with the people and stuff ^^

From my experience it can be browser based as well.

Honestly, I do not know any of the “politics” behind Psker, Derpybooru or 4chan(in relation to each other.) But here are my thoughts on the actual relevant topic.
 
I had not heard of the rise of internet based CYOA and till today had not read any of them. I saw the images of Entrapment posted on derpy booru and was equally confused and intrigued. I ended up here and after seeing all the hate to PSker I wanted to know what people were so mad about and decided to read entrapment.
 
I had an amazing time with the series, at times it was stupid levels of awkward when people decided SEX NOW, but it also gave it a unique sense of charm and overall I grew more invested as it went on, by the end fearing every panel that an important pony would die.
 
The ending felt fitting and forfiling, giving a sense of closure I never expected. I do not at all regret having taken the time out of my day to read this little story.
 
I will admit that I think derpybooru is not the best equipped place for this type of project, as I found the cyoa link and read the whole thing over there instead. But it is of value to note that I would never heard about this if not for being posted in derpibooru.
 
Obviously I am no authority on derpibooru, but I believe that Fimfiction has long shot its legs off by being ridiculously restrictive on what is considered a “fanfic” and as such is allowed to be posted, I would hate to see Derpibooru go down the same totalitarian route. I am glad Depy accepts Them’s fighting herd, I am glad Derpy accepts these Cyoa adventure posts.
 
Though I wish to point out that if you post over an old CYOA as entrapment, maybe limit it to the first few pages with the CYOA link, or do it over a stretch of time. I can understand why people would get bothered if you were to post 200 images back to back.(which I don’t think he did)
 
So, in short. Ignoring whatever you may think of Psker, the idea of CYOA posts on Derpy is perfectly fine with me, and it has introduced me to a concept I had not heard of before because I dont visit 4chan or Tumblr these days. Just, lets do it in a respectful and smart manner.
 
Finally, thankyou Psker, hopefully you are a good guy and these people are just annoyed trolls, because that Entrapment CYOA made me want to like and respect you.

If I may add my own thoughts about this? We certainly aren’t annoyed trolls. We do have a reason why we call Psker out on his behavior.
 
The thing is, CYOAs made on /mlp/ usually have the habit of being made for /mlp/ and not any other sites. We have our own kind of humor and our own imagination of morals and proper behavior over there. More often than not, they strictly goes against what the rest of the internet thinks T R I G G E R E D, amirite?. And most of us understand that. Which is the reason why we don’t advertise elsewhere because we think /mlp/‘s humor shouldn’t impact the outside world.
 
Also, since 4chan and the rest of the internet are so fundamentally different, we also try to avoid bringing a fanbase who doesn’t understand our habits to go over there, screwing us over. Coltquest is a perfect example, after Psker started uploading it here to Derpi, the fanbase turned massively cancerous.
 
And quite honestly, a lot of us are weirded out by you guys, especially when we looked at the latest comments to the colorblind pictures Psker uploaded
 
So yeah. That’s my take on this situation.

Can you link me to the coltquest image and comments that made you guys upset? send me pm about it if you can’t post it here. Because I am not really sure what culture we are talking about here, as you can see from my lack of posts, I am not directly active on derpi, I am a lurker in just about all places I visit.
 
And as someone who doesnt visit /mlp/ I still stand to having liked Entrapment, so it is not impossible for outsiders to like it.
 
Honestly, I didnt find it particularly different from the norm. I have read more mature brony things and less mature brony things.
 
I do understand that /mlp/ and outside bronies have always had a habit of annoying each other, but I dont think it means we can’t have cross contamination.
 
On the “triggered” statement, I am just confused. Derpi(any sensible brony really) does not seem the type to be “triggered”, by the modern definition of it.(I am a true believer of the old Love and Tolerate phrase, triggered goes against the very base ideal of that)
 
Overall, it sounds like you are advocating for /mlp/ isolationism while Psker wants to reach as wide an audience as possible(selfishly or not). I think its hard to blame a content creator for being an attention horse as long as he doesn’t break any rules(morally or otherwise).
 
If my take on this is not totally wrong, I think I can respect both viewpoints, you two (and maybe /mlp/ at large) want different things, but this sounds more like a concern to be taken up at /mlp/ then Derpibooru if its not actually Derpibooru’s people who are upset by this.

I wasn’t logged in but that was my post.

Imagine there is this basketball yard, where some people hang around play games, doing some tricks and generally only have a good time.  
Now some guy, let’s call him Psker, walks past this court and sees how much fun these guys have and what sort of cool tricks they play.  
Psker now goes to another city block, the derpi blog, and starts to tell everyone how awesome this court and the tricks where.  
Some of these derpi guys decide to go to the court and join these guys playing basketball.  
They just roll in, without asking the guys already playing there and join the game, only playing trick moves, because where they are from trick moves are way more popular.  
Ultimately this causes way more losses, and frustrates the original players.
 
Now the guys playing football in the court right next to the basketball field see that this Psker guy is now eyeing their game, and tell him that he should not do the same thing.  
He just ignores them, goes to the person who owns the yard, and asks them if he can advertise it.  
Of course this makes all the players around these yards mad.
 
And this is the Situation in which CYOAs on derpy and /mlp/ are.
 
The yards are respective quests.  
The original players are the people of the /mlp/ CYOA community.  
The tricks represent lewds.
 
I find it hilarious that Psker just ignored what the Discord channel told him, to ask the players too, while claiming that he just wants to work with us.

Welcome to the internet. Where real life analogies do not apply since the rules for both are not the same. If you want something to be exclusive, then dont make it of public access, its as simple as that.

I am willing to bet money on that even some /mlp/ people join into the cyoa just to wreck it in various ways. I haven’t seen that being mentioned, for some reason.

Thank you Sapare, I’m glad you enjoyed Entrapment and discovered pony cyoas. BathWaterHero did a great job with that cyoa and I’m glad I was able to upload it here. Was there anything about the cyoa that stood out to you or a particular favorite moment you wish to share?

As for the rate I upload stuff I usually only upload a few a day between work and study. So you don’t have to worry about a huge glut of these clogging this site.

Some good people have joined the cyoa community there due to first discovering it here. One has become a popular fan artist on the threads there while the other has gone and started a fairly successful cyoa of their own.

DitA ended up with barely any players due to not understanding how to run a CYOA. Or tell a story for that matter. It looks pretty dead in the water now.

If someone’s being an attention whore they should be bopped on the nose with a newspaper and told to stop, content creator or otherwise. There’s a very big difference between putting your stuff out there and trying to bring yourself up at every possible corner, especially when it’s among a relatively small community.

Ah, shouldn’t have assumed there. I wonder what Minster’s avenue was since that was before CQ started getting uploaded en mass.

I took a look at Entrapment. I’ve noticed Foalquest and Coltquest uploads but I’ve never actually read them. Something about the gladiator theme I guess draws me in.
 
I’m reminded somewhat of when I read Homestuck by the whole player-driven aspect of it.
