SVG stands for “scalable vector graphic” and contains the actual vector information of the image, which is what the artist actually produces when they’re doing a vector. This vector information can then be rendered into a bitmap and saved in a regular format such as a PNG or jpeg, but the original SVG (or whatever other vector file type - SVG isn’t the only one but it is one of the most widely used and the only one we support afaik) is essentially the highest quality as it can be perfectly rendered to any size you like, and modern browsers are pretty much universally capable of rendering SVGs on the fly so they’re an accepted upload type here.

We keep the high-res, high-quality versions of images. If you want thumbnail versions you can always go through to the source, and eventually we mean to get server-side scaling in again so the booru will serve scaled-down previews if that’s what you want.

As long as you credit and provide a link at least to the original source you’re using as a base for tracing/editing/whatever and it doesn’t appear the original artist minds their work being copied/altered (as long as they still get credit) then things are probably okay. Attempting to pass off a trace or edit of someone else’s work as an original piece is definitely a problem, though. Don’t do that.

Yeah, servers are running slowly. We’re busy setting up for a change that should improve performance a bit, but part of that involves doing a bunch of background processing to make ready. As TSP said, it’ll take a couple of days, but once we’re done and deployed performance should hopefully be a lot better.

Hey look, more people complaining about “forced diversity”! You know, it’s never stopped confusing me that in a show where the main cast are all explicitly very different people, from very different walks of life, with very different, contrasting personalities and skills and desires and pasts, different hobbies, different priorities, and actually literally different colours, it is only when it comes to their humanised versions that anyone cares about “forced diversity”.
 
Complaining about forced diversity is racist as it is basically a statement that it doesn’t “make sense” for a character to be a particular race, which I’ve already ranted at length about here.

If we didn’t think people should be allowed to vote/favourite their own images then we’d have prevented them from doing so in code, there’s nothing wrong with favouriting or voting on your own uploads and nothing artificial about the result on the score. Artificially inflating the score would be registering and using sockpuppet accounts to cast multiple votes on the same image.

Chill out, seriously. Discussion about how ponies hold things should not incite such vitriol.

Yeah, if you can’t stand FiW then filter FiW and don’t get into fights about it in the comments of images you could ignore.

Please try and use a comprehensive set of tags during the upload process rather than adding them after upload. It’s good practice and it prevents accidentally bypassing anyone’s relevant filters, even if the state of affairs is only temporary.
