Description
First page of my comic which I’ve been intending to get on with for some time.
Story’s up on Fimfiction under the title “The Mission”.
It was intended to be a temporary title until I thought of something more appropriate.

Part 1 ‘Royal Summons’
We begin our tale in a carriage on board the train heading to Canterlot….
The carriage rocked slowly from side to side, it’s current occupants sitting quietly, gazing at the scenery rushing by outside.
The group of ponies felt a little uneasy. Earlier that day, Twilight had received a letter from Princess Celestia herself, and had quickly gathered her friends together and boarded the train without a clear explanation as to why.
A certain farm pony had decided that an explanation was in order.
“So what does that there letter of yours say anyway?” asked Applejack, “seems like you’ve been holdin’ out on us”.
“Sorry Applejack”, replied Twilight, “this letter doesn’t say much”.
“So what DOES it say?” asked Rainbow, her irritation showing. She had almost immediately taken to the air, as she so often did when she felt frustrated.
Twilight pulled the scroll in question from her saddle bag in a glow of purple, held it up before her, and began to read.
“Dear princess Twilight. I require the presence of yourself and the element bearers in Canterlot as soon as possible”
She paused for a moment.
“And?” came Dash’s irate response to the silence.
“It says ‘An item has recently come to my attention which may prove useful to the defense of Equestria. I cannot tell you more until we meet”.
She lowered the scroll and looked up at Dash.
“That’s all it says”, she finished,
The rainbow maned pegasus clearly wasn’t satisfied with the lack of information.

On to drawing out page 6…..
That’s good because other than some tangential knowledge of it (that it’s ludicrous and sometimes hilariously grimdark, the God-Emperor’s on life support and the Imperium is just one of the many hellholes in this universe), that’s pretty much it, so some explanation would be necessary. I wouldn’t lay the backstory on too thick as to not chase away anyone with a large influx of proper nouns though (someone call Dr. Proper Nouns?), but that’s just me - you do what you think is best for your story.
First chapter’s just the train bit on the first 2 pages.
The text in the top left corner of page 3 is because that’s the start of chapter 2.
Chapter 2 is where Celestia explains what’s going on and why. She also explains how the ponies are going to get to the world to retrieve the staff, (which is actually the Crozius once wielded by one of the traitor Primarchs, Lorgar Aurelian of the Word Bearers legion, hence the story’s title).
It’s a bit drawn out because I had to explain it in a way that someone who has no knowledge of the 40k background could understand it.
Chapter 3 is where the action really starts, and should be around page 7 or 8.
Wow, these chapters go by quick. I guess I thought it’d be a bit before we saw Chapter 2, but this leaves me a bit pleasantly surprised.
And I can’t imagine why this wouldn’t get a positive score. You’re a good sport, not apparent duckery, and you’re definitely putting effort into this series. Imma keep an eye on you, boy.
I wouldn’t worry about me not finishing chapter 1. The last page I uploaded, (page 4) is actually half way through chapter 2. The comic’s receiving enough upvotes to keep me going for now. A positive score is all I really need.

And thanks, that is pretty much exactly what I was intending here. I tried to keep the characters… well… in character, as best I could.
No, it’s fine. While it’s not the best, digital art is something you need to get used to (something I am mostly incapable of doing, but regardless), and it’s not like digital art is any better, it’s just cleaner is all. Though, I’d probably have a rough smaller outline on another piece of paper if you want to plan your pages more easily.
Yeah, it’s pretty rough-looking at present, but practice is the best way to improve. :)
Okay. My next drawing project is the next page of this comic.
I think I’ll alternate between this and random pictures, as this comic will probably net me little in the way of upvotes, aside from some of the more notable encounters, (Twilight Vs Ahriman should be interesting if I ever get that far).
May take a bit before I get this finished though. There’s a lot of work involved in drawing a full page of comic by hand like this.
Beginning to look like I may have my first negative scoring upload here…..
I’ll probably finish chapter 1 off and see how it goes, seeing as it will probably only need 1 more page.
