Well, good news is it’ll play quite a big part in a story I’ve been writing for some time now. Slightly worse news – it won’t happen until a few chapters into the story… aaand I’m currently reworking the first one. You know, expanding what I already had and splitting it into a few shorter parts (I like it better that way). While also having an urgent project to do, a job… and a nasty tendency to procrastinate. ^^’  
Good thing, though, that I have a friend who’ll help me figure out the story’s details, once we’re both done with our respective projects. :)

I know it’s probably thread necromancy at this point, but in my headcanon the EG-verse Nightmare Moon incident had nothing to do with CHS. I don’t want to go into details, but it happened some time before Luna even got hired there. In fact, she was just a rebellious teen back then… yet still managed to almost cause a tragedy.

My theory is she had some sort of psychotic break related to stress, or possibly some mental problem like bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. She delusionally declared herself ruler of the school and that she could take away the sun. She was covered all the windows, smashed most of the school’s lights and barricaded herself in her office while shouting threats and demands over the intercomm system.
 
The police were called in and there was a lockdown. Celestia attempted to talk Luna down, which failed. After several hours Luna attempted to set fire to the school and escape out the window of her office. She was tasered by police while attempting to flee.
 
No one was hurt, there was little actual property damage, and Luna wasn’t charged with anything but she had to spend some time in the “Moon Mental Institute” and is currently on mood stabilizers, antidepressants, or antipsychotics. The school board only allows Luna to continue her job at Canterlot High because they trust and respect Celestia enough to keep an eye on Luna and make sure she takes her medication.

My version is that she got PTSD during the war with the Chang Ling nation, killed some people, got sent to solitary confinement on the moon, and came back with her traumatic memories suppressed at the cost of her personality and emotional independence, both of which she shows very little of. She lives with Celestia because she can’t live without her.
 
Humanquestria has reduced two ancient, extremely powerful beings that jointly run a continent-spanning empire to a couple of middle-aged motes of authority whose domain is limited to a single high school. You can say whatever you want as long as it looks feasible within the revelation of canon.

My version is that Luna got drunk, fired, then had to go to rehab and then re-hired. It’s complicated.
