Nintendo Switch looks nice, but there aren’t many games I want for it yet, and after previous consoles kinda spoiling us with some non-gaming features, (like Miiverse, and WiiU video chat) and video streaming aps, (like Netflix & Youtube) it feels like it’s not much of a value without anything else. (I kinda hate saying that as I used to stand up for the GameCube, when people bashed it for not having a DVD player like rival consoles, which was a big deal back then. On the plus side, it made the system very cheap to make/purchase.)

I will admit “Super Mario Odyssey” & some games look great though, don’t get me wrong, and being a portable console sounds nice. Still, I want to wait, and see if it’ll have any longevity, (I loved WiiU, but I hated the lack of support it got) or if developers are even going to support the system.
Plus, I can’t really afford one anyways at the moment.

As a retro gamer, I also kinda wish it had Virtual Console, (which Nintendo seems to be phasing out, or renaming) but the Arcade Archives & Neo Geo games do look nice. (Despite being a bit overpriced. 8-bit “Mario Bros. 1983” for 8 bucks? Granted it has some new features & custom options added.)
I do hear Sega might be bringing their “Sega Forever” line of classic games to it.

For me it’s more a matter of operating systems. The games I want to play almost never receive Linux ports, and using a console is a simpler solution than dual-booting. Plus I love a lot of my console exclusives.

I’m not much of a PC gamer honestly, but you have some points. Though, not everyone can afford the most powerful PCs on the market, and sometimes have to settle for less, (resulting in some games being unplayable on their hardware) and some don’t know how to constantly take them apart, and upgrade them. (like myself) So consoles can be more convenient for people.

I do agree about Nintendo, while some write them off as “kiddy,” “underpowered,” “gimmicky,” and such, they still make impressive game software, and products.
(And if it wasn’t for them making “gimmicks” like a D-pad controller, NES Zapper, Game & Watch, rumble packs, thumb-sized pressure-sensitive analogue sticks, touchscreens, ect. gaming wouldn’t be the same as it is today. Heck, if it wasn’t for Nintendo, the Playstation wouldn’t exist at all, and Sony never would’ve entered the gaming market.)

Like that new line of cardboard accessories being included with some Nintendo games may look kinda silly/gimmicky, and while not something I’m interested in, I think it could be fun for those who love making papercraft projects, and such. It could be good for younger fans too who like to build things. It’d be interesting to see people make & paint their own custom cardboard arcade cabinets, they can set their Switch screen & controller pieces in, and such. Among other things. Maybe some will invent their own accessories.

I’m SORTA in the same boat as you. Not really, but sorta. I’ll share a bit.

Xbox and Playstation are both INCREDIBLY underpowered compared to a PC. But, that’s not the main point. I would be fine with that if original games were out there for the systems. Very few original games exist, and they look much better on PC anyway, if there’s an emulation.

BUT, I must say that the Playstation 1 and 2, and Xbox, were made in a time where computers were much less powerful, and thus the games were not cross-platform and were original titles with great work put into them.

The only console that does this now is Nintendo. Original games. Original concepts. Graphics are great because the games are tailored to the system’s hardware.

PC still reins supreme, but the Nintendo consoles have more appeal than both Playstation and Xbox. If both systems just had original games like back in the early days, I would enjoy them more.

As odd as this sounds, I honestly am one of the few gamers who could never really get into the Sony PS systems. Not bashing them, they just never appealed to me much.

Honestly, even their high power/graphics (which are usually the main selling point to gamers, and third-party developers) don’t impress me much. (As somebody who grew up with old 2D & low-polygon 3D games, I’ll take “expressionism” over “realism” any day.) We’re reaching a point where game graphics don’t look much different/better then they did 10 years ago to me. (And while I enjoy some story-based RPGs, and such, it’s getting kinda old how most developers are trying to make almost every game into some gritty HD movie.)

Maybe I just prefer Nintendo & Sega’s style. (I don’t care what anyone says about Sega, I miss the Dreamcast…)
