Of course Americans don’t like Europe’s history (the post said “Europe’s past”). Our ancestors literally came here to get away from it :P
 
I mean, yeah, Europe has a space program, so I’d call it at least largely modern. The political climate there is a mess, though. But that’s for another thread. Suffice it to say, I’d be afraid to state my opinions there. That’s oppressive.
 
Plus, no manned spaceflight aside from Russia. Srsly. That’s sad. I may be a bit obsessed with that (manned spaceflight).

Everyone had their reasons. Of course the settlers weren’t innocent, but everyone was the victim from their own perspective. I just don’t like the narrative that the Natives were innocent angels and the colonists were evil invaders. The reality was far less black and white, with a lot of fear thrown in, with attacks often perceived as necessary for survival on both sides.

It should also be noted that the Natives didn’t start or do the whole scalping thing originally. That was more an ‘English/American’ thing to count how many natives they killed and such. The Natives then employed it back afterwards.

After they destroyed sacred burial sites for the sake of “progress” raided entire villages and intentionally spread diseases to the Natives. The Natives saved the first pioneers and are the reason the western civilization was even able to get started they are hardly to blame for the wars the pioneers overstretched their hand and tried to take too much while systematically eliminating the locals to make space so they aren’t without blame.
 
The rest I agree with though America is hardly the worst place to live and hardly has the worst history compared to other nations, just look at Europe’s past.

The Native American conflicts were due to cultural divides making skirmishes escalate into wars. It’s not like they were just randomly hateful. They had fathers, brothers, sons, mothers, wives, sisters and daughters scalped and murdered by locals. This led to war with the locals, which led to all that stuff.
 
Plus, I hate it when people try to make the US look evil. We freaking saved the world from imperialism and totalitarian dictatorships thrice, thank you. WW1, WW2, and the Cold War. Never mind sparking the modern era of western democracy. Yet it seems to be popular to hate us. It’s annoying.
 
We weren’t built on slavery and genocide. We were built on colonization and independence from Britain. If we were built on slavery than the whole world is, at which point it’s a moot point.

half the time someone is ‘evil’ becuase of desperation. honestly prisons and shit ain’t gonna solve anything when the issue is what ends up causing people to be desperate enough to steal or even kill isn’t being addressed in thes lightest. bad economy and social structure will always lead to it. and let’s face it, in america, we were built on bad social structures. slavery, genocide (no point denying it, we genocided the fuck outta the native americans), and racism. we became independent without making sure EVERYONE FUCKING ELSE LIVING HERE got the same.
