Description
As Max and Misty prepare to end the lives of these two Pegasi soldiers you get an idea.
“Guys Wait!”
Both Max and Misty look at you confused. You sooth a bump on your head with the pressure of your hoof. “Don’t kill them, I think we could use them to help us get out of here.”
Misty asks, “Wait, you want to use them as hostages or something?”
The colonel yells to you,” Pegasi Never Submit to land bound vermin like you! You better end us now or we’ll find a way to make you regret ever being born. Isn’t that right private!?”
Privet Vanilla mumbles, “Stampede, this is Swinger.. Are your ears on? How about a poem?…..” she is shaking.
Max is still holding the colonel down with the glaive and has a sword to his neck. Misty is still holding her Scepter Above Privet Vanilla ready to strike. Both seem to be waiting for you to make more decisions or elaborate on your plan.
End of Chapter 5!

Although I should probably put some sort of eye reflection in some of my art, I end up drawing dark environments most of the time. In fact, I think that this part of the story takes place during some heavy cloud coverage, and it might still be raining. But yeah, noted I really need to apple light effects to more things instead of only adding shadows if any lighting.
I know you have very strong opinions about what is “right” in drawing, and you are quick to help artists by pointing out those things that they are doing that does not look right to you.
But just because something looks “not right” to you doesn’t make it wrong, or something that has to be “fixed”.
And, honestly, if the goal is to create flat characters who have “seen too much”, not having eye highlights is a good way to do it.

It’s not about style. It’s about light physics. Wet spherical surface will reflect light no matter what. And we are used to that, art without it looks “not right”.

Precisely. I think it’s natural that a fandom where all of the main canon characters are coming out of a Flash program with cookie-cutter precision should look for ideals of precisions and become pedantic about minute variances and things like freehand artists not matching their drawings to the Flash rigs and puppets perfectly.
But there’s a definite beauty in an artist finding their own unique expression and finding new ways to re-express the fictional universe in their own style, and varying that style given the story they are trying to tell.
If anything, I would say that the artist’s aesthetic choice for their eyes is “working”. It’s getting a visceral response from their audience (even if it is narrowing their market).

I agree. It’s very distinct of Bath’s style and rather fits with the stories/cyoas he does. all his ponies are dead inside…
I think the absence of reflections in the eyes is a distinctive characteristic of this artist’s work, and the absence of them contributes to the emotion of the story being told. Trying to get everyone to draw everything the same way is not always a desirable goal.
I can, the next time I have a chance to talk to him. However others have pointed out the eye stuff as well.

Then tell this to the author, I see you are uploading a lot of his work here.
I can, but Bath’s art style has that effect for almost all his drawings.
