I think it's naturalforthat a fandom where all of the main canon characters are coming out of a Flash program with cookie-cutter precision should look for ideals of precisions and become pedantic about minute variances and things like freehand artists not matching their drawings to the Flash rigs and puppets perfectly.
But there's a definite beauty in an artist finding their own unique expression and finding new ways to re-express the fictional universe in their own style, and varying that style given the story they are trying to tell.
If anything, I would say that the artist's aesthetic choice for their eyes is "working". It's getting a visceral response from their audience (even if it is narrowing their market).
