People like you are why people like Jeremy Whitley think it needs to be a brick to the face. Without it you will always find some way to argue against it and say its not canon. I really doubt there would be anyway for them to show it to your satisfaction without it basically being a brick to the face.

you guys are just putting head cannons and fanon into canon now just because you can’t take that it’s canonically proved for them to be just friends.
 
Cannonically there will never be a les/gay couple, because Hasbro know’s it will cost them to much money over most of their fanbase leaving the show.

That’s exactly how I saw it when the episode aired. In my mind Lyra and Bon Bon wouldn’t have called each other best friends that often in such a short period of time unless they were implying that they are more than that.
 
And if any fanatics started sending angry letters/tweets Hasbro could say “What? No, those ponies are best friends, they said so themselves. You’re reading too much into things.”
 
I also love the tag “best friends” here on derpibooru. There was some drama on derpibooru about their relationship, but its mostly talked out by now.

That is how I see it. Basically I take it has Hasbro said they couldn’t say it outright; so the line of them say they were “Best Friends” was written in repeatedly to make the joke so absurd and overused that it become obvious what they actually intended. While still giving Hasbro deniability if they need it.

Oh… OH. By repeating the jab over and over, they were showing that they really did have to say it? Using it after every moment that might be seen as gay, for their own safety.

Am I getting this right? Because I can finally see that as a possibility now… In fact I’ve been using this mindset for Derpy’s name. That her name is Derpy is canon despite what the show says, since they were forced to do that.
 
Which means, LyraBon IS canon? This is good.

The thing is yes the line on its own is basically a jab against shippers, but you have to take into account the fact that they drove the line into the ground in the episode. That is clearly making it a jab against the fact they couldn’t just state it outright. The other way to interpret it as a huge screw you/rubbing salt in the wounds to people who ship gay couples in the show just seems incredibly wrong.

But that’s not true? They could have left it up to us to interperet. That way we get our gay characters and the other countries get their straight ones. The show could’ve just stayed quiet and been fine.  
Also when translated into their languages, they could add in a “best friend” line then.

The thing is part of this is wrong, there is something that stopped them from just having them say it (or kiss or have any kind of affection that showed them as a couple), Russia and China (among a few other places) would flip out about it and likely pull airing rights for the show.

I was about to cringe, but those last panels saved it and the the final was pure gold.

It’s cheap when you have any relationship at all where you have to constantly state that they are an item. It’s one of the reasons Shining Armor/Cadance’s relationshop is bad.
