Why? Sure you argue they’re redundant, but they’re still relevant and this was the same logic as to why we didn’t tag pony for several years. They don’t hurt to be there.

AFAIK normal instances of the relevant character wearing their signature item is not supposed to be tagged. Other appearances yes.

Not to mention there are pictures of them without their hat and bow. As well as pictures of the bow and hat by themselves or being worn by another character.

Speaking of, do Trixie and Sunburst have similar tags for their capes (and glasses and hat)?

Doesn’t it, though? What possible use case is there for searching for Apple Bloom’s bow when she’s wearing it normally that isn’t covered by searching for Apple Bloom? On the other hand, what if you’re searching for a picture where Spike has stolen Apple Bloom’s bow, and practically every appearance of Apple Bloom has the tag? Isn’t the tag more useful in that case if it’s restricted to special appearances?

Seems like it would make more sense for things like applejack’s hat or trixie’s cape to be restricted to images where such things appear but aren’t being worn, especially since we have tags like missing accessory and hatless for cases where a character isn’t wearing their signature gear.

That actually sounds like it makes sense too.

Now that gets me thinking. Someone tagged some of my screencaps with Applejack’s hat (and I think I added the tag to some others when I saw it). Should I remove them since Applejack’s wearing her hats in all those screencaps?

I would assume it should also apply to cases where someone other than the accessory’s usual owner is wearing it – like if a picture had Starlight wearing Trixie’s hat, for example.

Regardless of whatever it ends up being, it should also be mentioned in the tags’ descriptions. Otherwise, it sounds like it would end up being a problem that would need to be correct over and over and over again.

Didn’t know about “accessory theft”, but those do both exist, yes. However, that’s one of many situations where the presence of the accessory could be highlighted. Apple Bloom’s closet-fulla-bows. Big Mac’s yoke hanging on a wall in the background. Daring Do reaching for her pith helmet under a descending stone wall. Flam squirting someone in the face with a device hidden in his bow tie. Applejack holding her hat down with a hoof and warning somepony else not to touch it. Any scenario that gives special emphasis to the accessories, is my point.

I’m thinking a definition can be added to those character specific accessory tags along the lines of:
Character’s accessory by itself, worn by another character, or being featured prominently in the image.

Specific tag to describe parrot pirates pls. They’re anthro birds, but “anthro” + “bird” interferes with search for actual birds in same image as anthros.

The pirate parrot tag actually exists. Shame their race didn’t get an offical name like Capper’s. We were calling Caleano a harpy before the movie came out (because of her name and the fact that she was going to be a harpy in older concepts). But it never stuck.

I’ve been going back and adding anthro to images with Capper and the Parrots when I have the time/bandwidth, I’ll try to do the same for parrot pirates if a mod doesn’t get to it first.

The parrots and cats are going to be in the movie expansion of the official RPG as playable races. It will be interesting seeing what they’re called there.

Abyssinian and parrot pirates were always intended to be placeholder tags anyway, until there were official names.

IIRC Abyssinian was only implied from their nation’s name in the comics. I’d be fine if that’s their official name, but then again we don’t call ponies Equestrians either.

Does their species have an official name or a preexisting fanon one?

Four species from the movie will be included in the next expansion of the Tails of Equestria RPG as new playable non-pony races. To quote the relevant part of the description:

NEW NON-PONY CHARACTERS
A parrot swings from a chandelier, flips in the air and lands with panache. A Lizardfolk explorer guides his friends through Klugetown. A Hippogriff soars through uncharted sky to deliver a vital message, and a Cat carefully disables an underwater ruin’s trapdoor. The Official Movie Sourcebook contains four new playable non-pony races:

Nimble, roguish Cats.

Swashbuckling Parrots, with striking plumage.

Brave and honourable Hippogriffs.

Shrewd and intelligent Lizardfolk.

So Capper indeed seems to be a Cat.

Not sure how high this ranks in the canon hierarchy, probably below comic level, but it is an officially licensed product and the only source for those races’ names that I’m aware of.

I propose we create a new “Cat (race)” or alternatively “Catfolk” (to match Lizardfolk) tag and use that for Capper.

We also should create a “Parrot (race)” or “Parrotfolk” tag for Captain Celaeno and her crew, because right now they only get tagged as “bird” (if at all).
Same with a new “Lizardfolk” tag and (currently) “lizard”.

Unless they change it between the press release/shop description and the actual game, Cat, Parrot, Hippogriff and Lizardfolk seem to be the official names.
