Ah, I understand now. I’m using evidence to form my opinions, and you’re using your gut feelings. Considering this show is very shaky at best when it comes to logic, both methods could actually be perfectly valid or invalid. It all comes down to chance, pretty much. Different writers, different ideas.
Simple really, it is my personal choice. I really don’t think I need give evidence on why I have this preference. Though if you inist, both from personal experience and in learning of that of others.
More, that are just some things you learn slower, even that you must gain what you lack with greater difficulty then others. Even if they me physical or mental handicaps or challanges.
Lastly, I don’t really much like the idea that Scootaloo will be a pegasus that will never fly and much prefer the idea that this is simply a challenge she needs to cover come or that she’s a late bloomer being far more positive then saying, “Whelp, sorry kid you’re never going to be able to fly. Just something your going to have to accept and deal with.”
Edited
Could you explain, in detail, the evidence that led you to your conclusion over the other possibilities?
Still, I honestly I find the idea of Occam’s Razor being used a bit too often for my liking… to the point where it gets annoying.
More I posted the link to simply show that isn’t it always the simple answer that is the right answer.
My personal view on Scootaloo and her seeming lack of ability to fly is that she what is a late bloomer and her wings simply have not grown large enough to let her fly, that when she grows older she will be able to fly.

It’s not just about simplest, it’s about the one with the least assumptions. And when I say Occam’s Razor I’m not using it as an argument, but an example of how making too many assumptions is bad. It’s not always right, of course, but it does happen to be right more than often. It only really works when you have very few variables, though. An example of this in action is logic problems.
Also, this isn’t science, but fiction. That means no answer is correct unless the writer says it is, so you have to take into account contextual clues instead. Ignoring the context clues you might assume she doesn’t know how to fly and needs to learn, but if you take them into account, you’ll see all the evidence that she should have been able to fly from an earlier age, regardless of skill. The answer with the most assumptions is assuming the writers just screwed up, then assuming everything about Pound Cake flying and all the young pegasi we see flying is just a fluke. Even Fluttershy can fly. Taking it at face value requires the least assumptions, making a complex issue simple.
Also, you misinterpreted the article you linked. It’s talking about scientific theories, not actually simple ideas. It’s talking about taking how science makes complex things simple, not that the answer is always simple. Also, Occam’s Razor talks about the answer with the least assumptions from two equally likely ideas, so the fact the author used creationism and, well, scientific thought as an example of Occam’s razor gone wrong is a fallacy. They are not equal in any meaning of the word.
Edited because: Removed a stupid analogy that didn't make sense.
Why The Simplest Theory Is Never The Right One: Occam’s Razor Has A Double Edge
That’s just it. He didn’t fall short just barely. He didn’t just make a slip up or two. He didn’t even come close to pulling off his loop. Without someone else doing all the work for him, he’s such an awful flier he can’t even fly up. He had all the confidence in the world telling him his instructors where morons who didn’t know what they where talking about when they said his basics where bad, and in trying to prove them wrong, he fell flat on his face.
So much for confidence being the important bit in getting your plot off the ground. Maybe that whole “wingpower” thing that seems to be the pony term for “how much push your wings can actually give you” is more than a mere 30% of the equation?
Really, trying to compensate with an abundance of confidence for lack of skill is just plain stupid no matter what you are doing, but it is especially so when doing something dangerous, like aerial stunts, and you use try to that confidence in place of skill to pull off a dangerous manoeuvre. That’s just asking to be smeared across the tarmac.
I’m talking about his performance with the obstacle course, not flying in general. Unless that’s what @Background Pony #CF5E was talking about. Then yeah he was skilled enough to fly but not do tricks.
Sky Stinger could still fly, he just couldn’t fly up. Heck, remember him in the flashback as a kid? He was flying easily, trying to get his parent’s attention. It was the tricks that he needed a boost on.
Even Fluttershy could fly as a kid, and she hardly seemed the type to practice. I’m convinced flying is engrained in pegasi, especially because all the babies with wings have been shown to fly within the first month.

Skill, maybe, seeing as how we see her practice all the time. But confidence? Who knows?
Edited
That’s where the skill factor comes in. Without her he wasn’t skilled enough to fly.
I’m pretty sure Scootaloo has a ton of motivation and confidence.
Jesus, you all really don’t get it do you? without confidence you don’t fly as good, you don’t get motivation for it, what Rainbow said was that confidence is an important part to make one motivated to practice and all, in no way she says that flying only requires confidence, you need practice and training and a pair of actually healthy wings obviously… her point was that if you’re normal (no disabilities), confidence in yourself is a requirement for you to push yourself higher and learn further.
When Vapor stated that Sky couldn’t do it without his confidence it was right, confidence is important piece to make yourself try it, he only regained his confidence when Twilight and Rainbow convinced them to do their best together again, so he was able to practice again and get better, so here is the deal, Rainbow’s not wrong you just shouldn’t take it literally what she said, confidence is the door to the rest of requirements to fly pro-like.
If the solution was that simple, wouldn’t RD have gotten her flying by now?
Since she has no problem moving her limbs, talking or otherwise interacting like everyone else, its most likely something limited to her wings. Could be the muscles in her back aren’t strong enough, feathers are malformed or the wings didn’t develop fully, it doesn’t matter. Point is, she won’t fly on her own, and RD’s comment about confidence is just flat out wrong.
If it was right and its mostly down to confidence, why was sky suddenly unable to do his tricks when Vapor Trail left? It was supposed to come down to his confidence more than her help after all. Except it didn’t…
Who’s to say that a disability is more likely or less complicated than Scootaloo just not being skilled or confident enough?
What do you think is likely, then? Because I’m going by probability. The thing that requires the least assumptions, which is something affecting her wings in some way. Occam’s Razor, if you will.
I’m not saying it’s impossible for her to have a disability but I do think that the disability theory takes a back seat seeing as how we actually have a canonical explanation that comes to the forefront as to why she can’t fly, which is the closes to tangible answer we have seeing as how it’s coming from the show itself instead of some guess. Unless a disability is mentioned just like skill and confidence was mentioned in the show, I don’t think it has as much credit.

There is a difference between moving something really fast and using them in a specific manner. I’m not trying to argue she has a mental issue, just that it’s not impossible. I fully think it’s physical.
It isn’t the case because she can use her underdeveloped wings fully, thus using them to boost her on the scooter, also they clearly grow less than expected to her age.
Uh… Mental disability doesn’t just mean retardation or a learning disability, it could just be something wrong that makes it impossible for her to move her wings correctly. Something didn’t develop right, maybe. It happens. Like how some people have mental problems that make it hard to connect or move their arms or legs, making their motions jerky or barely functional. Physical disability is most likely, but the mental aspect is possible as well.
She has zero mental disability though, that makes no sense; she had no retarded pace in learning what so ever and over all she interacts with other ponies of her age exactly the expected way.
However I do believe she has a physical issue, her wings simply never developed correctly and it is likely they never will even though that is extremely heartbreaking, even if Hasbro/DHX wanted to broach the subject of disabilities that feels so rough to our lovely pony world.
Everything points to her having either a mental or physical disability. Flying seems to be second nature to pegasi (all the context points to this), about as much as walking, so if she still can’t fly there must be something wrong. If a human can’t walk by the age of eight, wouldn’t you say they have a disability?

@Vree
Her having a disability is only fanon, what Rainbow Dash said could actually apply to her in this regard in terms of skill or confidence.
