we saw her delivering things in season 1
so it’s more of a reference to season 1 then the meme
I originally thought it was Fedex, but you’re right, that’s definitely a UPS uniform on her. Guess they’re finally acknowledging the “Derpy is a delivery pony” meme.
In fact I didn’t even notice Derpy in the episode. Guess I have an excuse to watch it for the third time.
I meant to say there were fewer cynical fans during Season 1.
I don’t remember people specifically complaining about fan service during Season 1, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. I think there were fewer fans at that point, too.
Derpy exists on the show exactly because of the fans. Derpy’s eyes were derped by someone for pilot. Fans noticed, named her, and made up stories about her. Derpy had appeared with normal-looking eyes in many episodes since then. By the time Feeling Pinkie Keen aired, show staff intentionally derped her eyes in every scene she was in from then on out (because FPK was till in production when the the pilot aired). Derpy had already been placed in layout as a delivery mare, so that was a happy coincidence.
So, whenever people complain about Derpy being “fan service”, to me it’s like someone complaining about the sky being blue. I can’t help but roll my eyes as hard as I can.
I also remember some people losing their shit about Party of One because it reminded them of Cupcakes. Never mind that the episode was already being worked on well before the pilot aired. Hell, much of S2 was also being worked on before the show even aired.
it is not like it is huge and in your face apart from that one episode but that was supposed to be a handshake to the fans anyway.
Only 2 episodes of the season has had fan service
“Will you be at home between two and three?”
“No.”
“Perfect!”
I wasn’t in the fandom when season 1 was originally broadcast, but it wouldn’t surprise me if some deluded sods cried “fanservice!” at some episodes even back then.
And season 3.
Funny, people like you said the same of season 4.
Face it, you’re way outta your league, tiger.
