4. Sombra

Okay, let’s see. Given how insane and out of character Celestia is, there are several possibilites.
 
1: Discord returned and tried to confront Celestia first
 
A: He decided to corrupt her and twist her, probably as a joke or get her to serve him, but it backfired and she killed him/hurt him so that he ran into hiding.
 
B: During the battle, it didn’t go his way or he thought it would be fun to rule in her stead, he switched their bodies and killed ‘himself’ so no one could find out, or ‘he’ escaped into hiding.
 
2: Nightmare Moon
 
A: Discord could have revived Nightmare Moon and struck a deal, getting her into Celestia, but Nightmare Betrayed Discord
 
3: Griffin ploy gone wrong.
 
A: They could have inadvertently infected Celestia with the nightmares
 
B: It was on purpose to weaken her, but it backfired.

I think High Octane nightmare fuel would apply here, no?

All this discussion and nobody’s mentioning how adorable Spike’s nightgown is? I think Pia-sama should give up this comic and start over with The Adventures of Spike in His Adorable Little Nightgown.

I say this Celestia is Chrysalis in disguise. That claw is actually Discord’s, who realised the truth and tried to fight her, being killed or severely injured.
