Or Cherry Berry and Berry Punch/Berryshine!
Purple HeavyArms!
Lemon Hearts and Twinkleshine are seen interacting in the very first episode. They might have been surprised to see eachother at the same time, but in this case, it doesn’t make sense.
That kind of reminds me of the Gundam fandom back when Gundam Wing was on the air and people would basically cut up the Gundams and slap them together to make their own ‘originals’. I remember that a lot of Gundam fans at the time referred to them as ‘Franken-Gundams’.
And now, thanks to games like Gundam Breaker and MS Saga, plus series like Gundam Build Fighters, those Franken-Gundams now seem ahead of their time.
Some are, while some are just goombas, koopas, ect. with different hair/accessories, and such.
Wait, there are recolors of Paper Mario characters? Seriously?
How you fail at making an OC for PAPER MARIO :I
Alot of people would disagree with you. In fact, I see lots of “recolor-haters” who constantly whine about Shadow & Silver’s existence. Yet, meanwhile never complain at how similar Amy, & Cream’s faces are, and such. I honesly have nothing against some characters looking similar, otherwise I wouldn’t like MLP & such.
And to be fair Amy’s old Sonic CD sprite did look different, and smaller then Sonic’s. So like Shadow & Silver she had her differences from Sonic to. Some people actually do miss her old cutesy look.
Oh, no. That was just an example of how when a tech first comes out, the developers don’t try to push the envelope very hard because they aren’t sure just how powerful the new machine is. Once they have a better idea, then they can go all out.
Mmm, yeah, you’re talking about things I have no interest in, sorry.
Well, I’d still argue Amy was a result of tech restrictions in the sense the programmers weren’t sure how far they could go. I figured that was part of the reason she was so colourful, to see how powerful the Sega CD was.
If you know the game series Super Robot Wars, the first SRW released on the PS2 was only slightly better graphically than the previous one on the original Playstation (Kyousuke and Excellen’s combo attack at 03:29). Once they had a better idea of what the PS2 was capable of, you got flashier animations (the same attack from SRW Original Generations 2 at 5:46).
The thing about Amy wasn’t ‘technology restrictions’ If you see the rom hacks the Sonic retro fanbase has made that add every character under the sun to Sonic 1 etc, you can see what the Genesis could be capable of, considering the Sega CD had more power, I guess so at least.
Her design was meant to look that way, she was younger than her current age, and the only bizarre thing was that her original design used way more colors than her modern one, so making palletes for her was strange. Of course she was mostly ignored in America until the modern era started with Sonic Adventure.
I personally wouldn’t consider Shadow and Silver recolours, since they at least have redesigned quills, gloves and/or shoes. And I’d chalk up Amy Rose to simply being a limit of the technology at the time.
Compare that to, say, Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp, who are exactly the same figure only coloured differently. To say nothing of the additional Seekers nowadays like Sunstorm, Acid Storm and so on. At least the Coneheads are slightly retooled.
Well, there are Shadow & Silver, who some argue are “recolors.” Even Amy Rose used to look like a girl pink Sonic recolor back in the “Sonic CD” days.
@Lucas Osse
I don’t know it could be argued every pony is a recolor just with different hair, eyes, cutie-marks, clothes, or other minor features. Or that characters Knuckles is basically Sonic with a pointier snout, dreadlocks, fists, and such. So basically while there are differences the proportions & overall look for both the pony, or StH characters are similar.
Also, I think it’s safe to say both fanbases have alot of fan-OCs. I see just as many pony ones, as I do Sonic ones. I even see ones for series you wouldn’t expect like “Paper Mario.”
Ah. Now I understand. I’d totally forgotten about the numerous fan OCs which are basically recoloured Sonic characters.
That’s one area where MLP and Transformers have it easier, since there are plenty of recolours within the shows or toylines already.
Sonic is more known for the recolors the FANS make. MLP also has plenty of fan made recolors but not as intense as Sonic, MLP is more on the show itself.
I don’t see how that’d be very meta. It’s not like the Sonic series is known for having recolours. Even Transformers, who’re even less shy than MLP when it comes to recolours, rarely draw attention to it.
Believe it, or not one of the Sonic comics had an issue poking fun at recolors too.
