The word bullet goes all the way back to cannon balls. And pinkie clearly has one of those.
And I don’t know. Overall Equestria’s technology has always been really schizophrenic when it came down to things, mostly explained away by “magic”. However in the show the royal guards clearly rely on spears even if it meant losing their capitol to the changelings (if they had something better i’m sure they would have used it)
And here’s a old answer from Lauren Faust on the subject:
Q.“The ponies are definitely the heart of the show, yet they occupy a world that is rich with mythology and fantasy while still sporting a variety of modern technology. What was the creative strategy behind constructing the realm of FiM’s Equestria? How did the team approach this balance between mythological fantasy and modern tech?”
A. “I always wanted the default technology of the show to be a bit medieval in nature; but since this is a whimsical, non-serious show, I felt there was plenty of wiggle room. I think ultimately it was just my personal comfort level in each individual story. If it screwed up the story to get too technical about how primitive the technology was, it wasn’t worth it. So, if we needed cameras, I just wanted those cameras to be relatively workable to a creature with no fingers. And if we absolutely positively HAD to have an electrical appliance (which we often did), I just told myself that it was enchanted by some magical unicorn mechanic at some point. However, I insisted that such an attitude was to be considered only as a last creative resort - don’t use a light switch when you could use a candle, just because you’re feeling lazy. Don’t draw a hoof unnaturally and awkwardly wrapped around an umbrella because you don’t feel like thinking about it a little more. Overall, though, it was definitely not a strict approach - and it’s hardly consistent. Humor and ease of storytelling took precedence over technicality.”
So yea, ease of use and being relatable to the main audience took presidence over true world building and can be taken with a grain of salt. It’s what’s been said many times by the creators.
Twilight: lasers, teleporation, shields, ect.
Cadence: Crystal conjuration, shields, mind control spells, lasers, ect.
Celestia: Fire magic, lasers, CONTROLS THE FRICKING SUN.
Luna: Lasers, weather control, dream control, CONTROLS THE MOON.
Unicorns in general: As shown by the comics, quite capable of creating shields and magic of their own if trained according to Celestia’s micro
Pegasi: Flight which the yaks really have no way to deal with, so their cities are pretty much unnassailable to the yaks. Weather control.
Earth ponies: ummm… Yeah, okay, you got them pretty screwed.
I don’t think the yaks would be able to threaten the ponies.
Weeell how about the Find a Pet song?
“I need something real fast like a bullet to keep up with me.”
And I’m pretty sure she wasn’t referring to bullet points used in documents.
Woops, forgot her. But my point was besides twilight and the other alicorns no other characters have shown to have any great magical ability that would be useful in a fight.
As far as that goes id say Twilight IS the the most powerful of ponies being the freaking element of magic after all.
Don’t forget that Cadance also has lasers.
I don’t know. Those 3 yaks having a temper tantrum smashed freaking crystal and rock like it was nothing. Meanwhile Twilight, Celestia and Luna are the only ponies to have shown some form of combat magic While the royal guard have been shown to be utterly useless each and every time they are needed….
Cause his shell looks like a water tank?
Not to mention Dash has a tortoise named Tank.
If they’re anything like the Mongols, then they would have a pretty good chance defeating enemies you wouldn’t think they would be able to.
It’s normal these yaks look like ancien mongols because yaks can be found in mongolia.
It’s the same reason why pegasus have greek-like building because they’re part of greek folklore and why deers of comic issue #27 and #28 look like elves because deers live in forest in real life.
Here’s an interesting thought: the Yaks remind me an awful lot of ancient Mongols. It also struck me that Equestrian is probably not their first language. With so little outside contact, their use of the language isn’t very strong. I wonder if, like the Mongols, the last time they went outside their borders they overran everyone in their path?
While watching the episode, I wonder if the point of friendship with the Yaks is that it’s better to have a confirmed friendship with a strong, tireless, warrior race than a potential enemy.
I thought so too, but then my wife said that Twilight mentioned “an epic pony war” back in It’s About Time!
Hey, nobody ever said the Yaks were smart!
I kind of get the impression they declare war on random other races every other week and then get bored and go home a few days later after failing to achieve anything.
Its serious because he’s showing his eyes and rendering with shading.
War never changes.
Well it’s not like they were characterized as being smart.
I’d rather not.
because reactions like yours are funny enough.
