If that’s really the case, then I think all this is because of the economy being stuck in the shitter. Think back to the early 2000s when DVDs were first introduced; VHS got phased out fast. And that was with the dot-com-bust and a hot recession afterward. Releasing the VHS first in those times would have been foolhardy.

I think if enough fans buy the shit out of this release (and possible other season sets), we might be able to convince Shout Factory to release Blu-ray sets. Maybe!

Who Cares Full season 1 boxset. Sure it would be awesome if it would be Blu Ray but this is what we got. And correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t media rereleased on Blu-Ray a certain period of time A long one) after orginal release? If other releases are to go by

lolDVD, but (1) DVDs let me support the show and get a shiny collectible without actually going through iTunes and (2) there are audio commentaries on here. I’ve just gotten the Royal Wedding DVD (THANK YOU USPS for not screwing with me anymore), so I’m pouncing on this to further my Redundant Pony DVD collection
 
MLP and home releases in general are weird to me. I recall an explanation by an employee of the distributor explaining the complicated parent-appealing logistics behind home releases, but the only reason this even gets a home release is probably the intense fanbase.
 
I guess this really is the sort of thing that only gets a “proper” release years after its initial televising. Alas, the definitive version remains tied to DRM.

Needs more Blue-Ray and 1080p and 7.1 DTS-HD…

That’s OK Verbose, I actually agree with you. I hadn’t refreshed my screen after my first comment. If I had seen yours, I wouldn’t have posted.
 

I refuse to buy it unless it’s 2160p, 7.1 channel lossless audio, all three seasons, signed by Lauren Faust and the voice actors, and free.

Shout Factory wasn’t sure there would be enough demand at first. They don’t want to release a product and then not have it sell.
 
Having a huge release of Season One DVDs and not selling the entire lot would doom the future of any future season sets. I think Shout Factory wanted to wait until it was certain it could definitively make the sales.
 
I kept telling people it was only a matter of time. :D

Do not complain about it being late or it not being Blu-Ray. That’s nearly infuriating considering we’re periphery fans and they included commentary that younger fans wouldn’t care about (so it’s apparently focused on bronies.)
 
Just get it, shut up, and be thankful. It’s for the show and to support Shout for making this.
