The problem was that this episode threw everything and the kitchen sink into a single jumbled up cringeworthy episode. Along with it being written by the stupendous M.A. Larson. I would have at least liked it more if they at least went all the way with it and ripped Twilight’s wings off.

You know what I loved about this episode?
It was the most fan service saturated thing I’ve ever seen, but instead of doing the whole “wink wink, nudge nudge” style of fan service they just completely owned it instead. Also, I can’t imagine how much fun they had making this episode.
Oh, fans think that stallion is like Doctor Who? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! Derpy is adorable? YES. Gummy has a rich and complex inner life? MORE SO THAN YOU CAN COMPREHEND. HAVE A TWILICANE. AND A CHANGELING. WHAT, YOU THOUGHT ALL CHANGELINGS WERE EVIL? HAVE YOU BEEN PAYING ATTENTION TO THE MORAL OF THIS EPISODE?
And despite the goofiness, they told a story that fit the theme perfectly. Everyone, not just you, lives a complex life that can be hard to pin down with simple generalizations or brief glimpses from the outside.
So basically, they gave a lot of fucks despite it all.
