I’m aware of that, (oddly, you never see either Lyra or BonBon paired with any other characters much anymore) of course, ‘shippers aren’t picky. They even ’ship characters who never even met.
Two ponies standing next to each other has spawned Lyrabon, as you very well know. Rubymash is no exception to this possibility.

I don’t think that was ever the intention with Button originally. I think the ButtonMash pairing got started ’cause she was the only one seen prior who interacted with him. Alot of fanon ’ships get started that way. (Surprisingly, Clair Corlett likes the “SweetieMash” pairing.)
Also, I think you guys are reading to much into this, just ‘cause 2 BG ponies are standing next to each other, or look at each other doesn’t mean anything.

I’m chalking it up to either people’s loyalty to Sweetie Belle and Button Mash as a pairing or fans trolling whoever had them look at each other. Like “yeah, we know you handed us a new ship on a silver platter. But we’re not shipping it. Your attempts were for naught. So, y’know…take that and stuff”.
Fandom used to be much quicker, as case with Rumbloo.
Because the episode just aired recently, so you’ll have to give it time.
