I wish I was better at physics and math. I’m brilliant at programming but as soon as we start talking advanced differentiation and integration I zone out.

It should be F sin(theta). I’ve seen sn(theta) used for a Bessel function instead.

In the equation for radial motion, that should be an alpha (angular acceleration) instead of an a.

I saw it there.

And I agree. They didn’t pass this over with a physicist, but they got close enough that it doesn’t matter to anyone but physics majors or anyone with a physics degree.

Sure, and I have no problem with it. I just pointed out that they most probably didn’t asked a mathematician to do this.

“I’m not sure why they didn’t use alpha”

The funny thing is that they already used alpha. Look near the bolling ball.

You’re right. I’m not sure why they didn’t use alpha, but I know they’re not going for 100% accuracy with the formulas. It’s close enough for the show. Variables can be swapped in equations without changing their meaning, but it’s less intuitive not to use well-known and consistent variables.

The equations with thetas and omegas is angular position. It’s basically the position of something if it were going in a circle.

Also deltas not d’s because this isn’t calculus-based physics.

@ThruMuffin
Most likely no. There are some correct things in this, like how work is equal to force times distance it affects (W=F(Δ)scos(θ)), but the Force F that affect to the ball with theta angel makes no sense. What force is pulling bolling ball a bit upward and backward.

Also they seems to confuse W (work) to revolutions per minute ω.

And θ=θ_0 + w_0t+½at^2 seems to be equation for position, where θ_0 is original position, w seems to be speed and a is acceleration. Of course in this context it doesn’t make any sense, because here θ is clearly the angle between force F and the plane level.

Also the equation -Fcos(θ)+f_ g=-Ma is pointless, if f_g is meant to be ball’s gravitational force (also known as weight), because ‘a’ is clearly ball’s acceleration among x-axis, but f_g have only y-axis component.
