The kind that instilled respect for things that can kill you, thus giving the child reason to not be as moronic as some? Which is pretty rare now, what with everyone going medieval on animals with acounting for the idiots and ill informed that provoke them.  
Common sense, just because you are smarter then the beast doesn’t mean it will sit there and take an anoyance for long.  
Pythons aren’t exactly dangerous if you know what your doing and actually feed them. Nor are they large enough to eat a decently sized being, unless they are older then hell compared to when youd generally find them being sold.
