I hasten to add: there is a quite intriguing property of indium as compared to its lesser group 13 counterparts boron and aluminium, namely that its 1+ state is stable while those of the aforementioned elements are not. This is the inert pair effect, a relativistic phenomenon exemplified most by indium’s heavier analogue thallium (81).

Princess of Science
Indium is, frankly, not a very exciting element; pretty much its only major use is, as pointed out in the picture, LCDs. Lying in the p~~block, though, it’s very ductile ~~ and therefore soft and squishy.
