Cue Twilight having an existential crisis because she is a blue mage with purple coat. Trixie revels in finally having the upper hand on her.
@PonyPon
It hasn’t been said but it’s pretty clear particularly from the S5 opener, where she’s able to cast the shielding spell that Starlight had used earlier to push apart the crowd to get away. But there’s several cases of where Twilight’s shown doing a spell, albeit a smaller scale, that other ponies have with their talent: jem dousing from Rarity, shield from Shining, love spell from Cadance, dark magic of Sombra via Celestia, etc. She’s a magic casting savant (aka a blue mage in FF terms)
That’s true. Twilight’s talent being magic means it was easy for her, but not so for other unicorns.
Yeah, didn’t they directly state that she could ages ago?
Twilight’s talent is magic. It’s probably not so far fetched that she is easily able to imitate spells just by watching others.
The gem finding and mending spell have to do with her talent though. And even then, I remember Twilight figured the gem one out pretty easily when needed so I assume it’s not that complex.
@Keith Mowz
Exactly. The issue there seemed to be that the living creatures were fragile and had to be manipulated with unique care. Meanwhile, we saw Twilight manipulating and reshelving an entire library of inanimate books at once back in season two.
Pretty sure the issue with floating the critters around is that levitating living creatures is significantly harder than inanimate objects. Otherwise, presumably, unicorns could regularly levitate themselves versus twilight and magic-surging babbycake
Rarity also has Gem Finding and a Mending like spell, she’s used it on broken wheels and to kinda insta-stitch some garments, and possibly a Dancing Lights like spell to make fashion show effects, although that may have been ‘off stage’ lighting. Her TK can also manipulate a significant number of objects in complex patterns, Something that even Twilight had trouble with when floating around Fluttershy’s critters.
So she’s possibly one of the next most powerful unicorns on the show.Hope this means Sweetie has some potential as a spell caster in her future.
Except, Fluttershy’s sewn before. …although, she might have used her wings to do so HOW DOES THIS EVEN WORK
Well, Rarity having above average telekinesis makes sense mostly because of her line of work: can’t sew of design with your hooves so it’s a necessity. But that’s the extent of her magic inclination - even when fighting she doesn’t use magic.
Now that I think about it, I don’t think Sweetie Belle’s talent for singing will benefit from her magic too much? At least I can’t think of many ways it would.
@Background Pony #0465
Well, we’ve seen that Rarity is no slouch in the magic department; other than Twilight, she has the best telekinesis powers in the show. If magical prowess runs in the family, it stands to reason that Sweetie Belle will have strong magic, too. And yes, being tutored by the Element of Magic herself can’t hurt.
No
Applejack
“Fluttershy?”
Well, she is learning from one of the best magical ponies arround

Yeah she’s a nasty one.
Here’s a canon imagination of hers.
Not that Sweetie Belle’s bothered by that. :)
No, that’s lime green.
This is closer to seafoam green, which is completely benign.
Also, this cute little face right here.
