They do still implement the striped sun rays in many an anime and game, yeah. :T
If it wasn’t an issue back then, I hardly see why it would be an issue now.
On the other hand a bunch of companies just banned the sale of the confederate flag over stupid shit. So who knows.
Since the rising sun flag is viewed as a symbol of Japanese imperialism during WW2 in some part of Asia, it could be uncomfortable with many people when it is used in public.
Yes, I know lot of American people and European people doesn’t care about it.
I have no meaning of offense, I’m just explaining why rising sun flag can be viewed as an offense to some Asian people.
The Imperial Navy flag of Japan used during the Second World War
Enjoy before General Tatsu’s forces will come knocking.

For the sake of love and tolerance, let us not bring anymore drama.
World War 2 has ended, except in Russia and Japan due to the Kurile islands dispute.
I suggest that you should really go to this year’s Japan Ponycon. Heck, you can meet Kikuko Inoue (she is currently 50 years old) in this event.
No problem. I just wanted to understand your point of view. I guess you’d find it a bit offensive since they were part of the Axis Powers, though it’s not like everytime a flag appears that country wants to show supremacy or something. I highly doubt that they mean anything offensive with an ad about ponies.
So, are people also offended by Americans also including their flag into advertisements and stuff? It’s just showing patriotism. A lot of countries do that, it’s just to show how much they really admire where they are. It’s not to say that they are better than anybody else. I also know other kinds of people including the Chinese who are fine with it. Why not include a flag in an advertisement that states that it is in Japan?
I’ve never met a Japanese person that was offended by it actually, and I know a handful of them
why? is an official variation of their national flag, why they should be offended?
what?
