The LEGO Movie wasn’t even nominated, and How to Train Your Dragon 2 had its own flaws. Personally, I think Song of the Sea or The Tale of Princess Kayuga should have won, but the days of the Academy giving the award to an art-house indie are long past.

They still make some interesting choices when it comes to nominations, but at this point, I think it’s clear they’re going to give the award to the most financially successful of the nominees.
The Academy lost all credibility (not that they had much to begin with) when they outright admitted that no one there had watched Frozen because they think animation is kid’s stuff and just went with it because it was popular.
I haven’t seen either of those, but I’d imagine you’re right about them being a better fit. I need to rent them soon.
It wasn’t better than HTTYD2 or Lego Movie though, which is what should have really should have been in the reaction panels.
I wish the show did that and not fandom.
