No matter how you see it, there’s always drama in the comments when it comes to comics.

This is why I like manga more.

“As for Aspen, while he got humiliated, it was because of Well To Do,”

It wasn’t because of Well-To-Do, not when Aspen had him in his hooves and could have laughed in his face, ordered his guards to arrest the pair, and gotten his son back.

The contract thing is bullshit anyways, since Aspen isn’t subject to Equestrian law, and if he were, the contract wouldn’t hold any legal authority since it was made under duress and Well-To-Do committed a crime by kidnapping the prince.

Aspen acted like an all around idiot here. That he got humiliated is solely his fault.

It’s not, but it’s still hard to swallow.
Aspen’s smug attitude as Well to do is about to get swallowed is the same as Applejack when Twilight is about to cast magic at the end of the Western Arc, both time we have a hard time to figure that Cook acknowledge that the good side did something bad. Something her twitter silence regarding this reinforce.

They apologize for the damage, but it doesn’t seem like they apologize for acting that way in the first place, it’s just something that would’ve been welcomed here.
Background Pony #0227
If Blackthorn apologized, and all the deer (including Aspen) are personally helping to undo what they did, is it so much of a stretch to assume that perhaps, maybe, it is implied that some more apologizing happened off-panel?
Celestia is probably apologizing for allowing the park construction to happen to begin with and not being able to help in person. It’s not out of character for her to do so, is it?

@Starlight Storm
You’re right about the smaller animals, however, Blackthorn immediately know that Fluttershy will be able to communicate with Manticore and others, despite never having shown that ability to them. (And something that didn’t work with the Hydra before)
As for Aspen, while he got humiliated, it was because of Well To Do, in the end, he NEVER apologizes for his behavior, and in fact Celestia apologizes to him, when he’s the one responsible for everything that happened to the ponies.

As someone who was never a fan of Katie Cook…I disagree. I don’t remember that the deer controlled the wild creatures as much as being able to communicate with the smaller animals. And her “Ocs” if you wanna call them that way ended:
  • Humiliated because of his stupidity. (Aspen)
  • Endangered because of his recklessness (Bramble)
  • EATEN ALIVE (Well To-Do)
    Only Blackthorn comes out clean because he was a competent character BUT not into Gary Stu levels, because he offered a solution that DID required the Mane 6 aid (even if it came a little late in the story and made it seem like they did little), and because he was the first to say “SCREW POLITICAL APPROACHES AND PACIFIC ATTEMPTS, WE MUST DO SOMETHING” and after THREE ISSUES of nothing more than “We need to be civil”, it was like Katie finally woke up and saw how wrong that approach was.

Your defense if flimsy.

HOW did they even knew that “they needed Fluttershy to work?” Flutters has at no point shown she could control big animals to the deers, and in fact she WASN’T able to control a hydra in the show…

Another bad comic, because Cook had to overly uses her OCs rather than the mane 6. Sigh…

They could easily have destroyed the park manually after kicking Well to do out though, he had like 5 bulldozers and construction workers, the Deer were a small nation.
Even without the everfree creatures there was no way it was going to end well for him as soon as a competent leader took charge (Blackthorn) and just said “you know what? Screw it, we’re going in and kicking them out via force”.

@Background Pony #B0D3
Agreed.

Blackthorn is the hero the Everfree deserves.

it is a world with a lot of potential, equestria. work in some world buildings ideas and hwo knows?

though yeah equestria is not built for continuous storylines, least not its current state. but who knows? could be some no good doer has an army and is competent enough t obe an ongoing threat.

A handful of birds and squirrels =/= Hydras, Owlbears, Manticores, etc.

They needed Fluttershy for their attack to work.

In fact if the mane 6 hadn’t visited Well-to-Do all those times, Bramble would have never discovered the smoothy mix was an effective fertilizer and they never would have been able to grow the vines to destroy the park.

Bramble is at least able to communicate with smaller animals directly. Blackthorn has Calvin as an informer. Aspen is at least aware that the animals are panicking.

And Blackthorn’s instructions were to explain the situation to the residents. Did it have to be our ponies to accomplish this? The deer seem to be in commune with Everfree’s residents far better than most.

When I think of every plot point, I see it happening regardless of our heroines. Bramble gets captured and no one is on hand to witness it. Yet it doesn’t matter because Well-to-Do makes his ultimatum right away. King Aspen is disgraced. Then Blackthorn rallies the troops, charges, and the conflict is resolved. I can’t see a pivotal moment for our heroines. Only delays to the story.

What are you talking about the wars “over”

I just can’t help but look at two comic series owned by Hasbro and published by IDW and compare them

But seriously if there is one other series I’d like to see Roberts write for it was Doctor Who but I don’t think IDW has that license anymore do they?
Shame I wish they’d have done a “Infection” type event with the different Doctors in different books could have finally made Doctor Whooves official

@MLP-Silver-Quill
The mane 6 were leading the charge. Plus they did try a whole bunch of times before that, alone. You think he shouldn’t thank them for all their efforts?

And like I said, Aspen’s attitude change remained in all the pages after he thanked the ponies. At that point it was no longer because he was getting what he wanted.

Given how ineffective our heroines were this arc, I’m not surprised he was short with them. His mood did improve, yet only because he got what he wanted.

And why is he thanking them? Blackthorn’s leadership. Bramble’s plan. The creatures’ strength. I think that’s my biggest frustration. Other than Fluttershy’s minor role in recruiting the creatures (which the deer seem to be able to do just fine), what did our heroines actually contribute?

Oh if only James Roberts would write for this comic if only a little
Now that guy knows how to world build

I read the IDW Transformers comics and I am impressed at what they’ve done. Yet I wonder if Roberts benefits from having the theater of war as a setting. Would he flourish as well in a relatively peaceful world like Equestria?

@MLP-Silver-Quill

At the begining of the comic, Aspen is shown to have some prejudice against ponies.

In the end, he earnestly thanks the ponies and is shown to be a lot less short with them in subsequent pages.
